IF you use Riivolution and/or OWN gamecube games, then owning an original BC (backwards compatible) Wii is the ONLY way to go.
In fact if you plan on using Riivolution, it is currently the ONLY way to go.

I suppose I was one of those exceptions, with a stack of Gamecube discs to dump ;)

Could always dump them with your computer. :) Unless it's got one of those slot style disc drives like the Wii U where you have to slide the disc in.

It's a tray drive but I don't think it's one of the ones that can read the GC disc format.

Letting the Wii handle it is simpler though and gives it a purpose in life ;)

What is the benefit of riivolution over a software that can patch from USB? (Or does no such program exist?)

Asking because I legitimately don't know. Never used Riivolution.

Does it exists any vWii hack that lets you navigate and starts games/channels from the vWii menu With a Wii U Pro Controller instead of the Wiimote?

No. Same for GC Controller. Why does everyone want this? You have to have a wiimote just to get to the Wii menu..

I think it's because people are lazy and don't want to hold up the Wiimote long enough to get into whatever they want to get into. Also because if someone want's to use only pro controllers, it's a hassle to have to switch between controllers.

maybe we should stop feeding the troll ?
he posted to get a wii in a wiiu guide, let him do what he likes. If he likes Wii better, that's his choice.
Personally, I like wii better too, not because of native port, but because it's faster to boot, easier to reboot in case of crash, as more protection and has usbgecko for debugging :P (that's just personal opinion).

Cause it's kinda awkard having to go through several Controllers just to start up stuff. Hell, even being able to navigate using the D-pad on the Wiimote would be Nice.

Other than the Wii Menu, which isn't going to get edited for other types of controller support soon, if ever depending on the IOSU release, everything I run has support for the Wiimote Dpad.

Thanks for the guide, followed it all the way through.
Everything seems to work but finding USB Loader GX quite buggy with a lot of freezes. Same results even after updating to r1260

I would suggest
- Breaking down the steps a bit further
- Link to Xyzzy 1.2.2 (http://www73.zippyshare.com/v/58759984/file.html) instead of 1.2.1 which gives an error for vWii, yet still works

Good morrow peeps.
Little question. When I play Galaxy 2 my remote + nunchuk dies right at the end, while fighting or just after beating Bowser in his final galaxy place. Either it just permanently pushes Mario to the right, or just freezes and I need to unplug the WiiU. Controllers seem to work OK on other games, both on vWii and the WiiU. Actually, I get a similar issue with Rabbids Go Home.
I'm using the same SMG2 dump that worked fine back in the old Wii days. Loading through USB Loader GX.
Are there any peculiar loading settings I could try? Any bugs you know of? Just what the blazes is going on here?

Haven't experienced the SMG2 issues. Never played Rabbits Go Home. Dunno what could cause that.

Suggestions noted. As far as USB Loader GX freezing, that definitely isn't normal. What are you doing when it freezes?

The loader can feel laggy and acting strange/freezing if the SD card is write protected.
Other than that, it shouldn't freeze, as best it should crash and display lot of numbers on screen.
freezing probably means it's still "working in background", for example
- if you try to list ALL the cheat code of Monster Hunter (thousands of codes !!!) then it might feel like it froze while it's still loading. you have to wait 1min to load ALL the cheat codes.
- if your HDD has 5000 games to load and display (why would you want to display that many games at once?) it can be slow to load.

It froze when switching views, loading Xenoblade and downloading covers. Tried CFG but no issues there except an extremely slow loading in Xenoblade. I think it may be the portable drive (Samsung T1 SSD) or because i'm using multiple partitions on it. Probably an outlier but I'll look into it later.

Are you using a Y cable? Also, multiple partitions is possible to use, but it is honestly simpler and typically less prone to issues to just have one, FAT32, MBR partition spanning your entire drive. Not sure that would have anything to do with what you're experiencing though.

I have had USB Loader GX freeze on me once, and it was also while downloading box art. However, it was because of the large amount of images I was downloading. I downloaded less, just unchecked custom banners and HQ cover art, and it went through fine. Then downloaded again but only did the custom banners and HQ cover art.

Dude, stop. Did you not read the mod's message? If you spam your problem around and eventually find your way to this thread, I don't mind to answer but you have to actually be on topic. That has nothing to do with anything in this thread.

It makes me remember that some versions of USBLoaderGX had a stability issue due to SSL support for nintendont auto-update feature.
If you are not on r1260, or specifically if you still have the "update nintendont" option in the feature menu, please update the loader and it will fix the cover and freeze issue!
if you already are on r1260 then I don't know, it should work well.

I don't know how SSD drives are reacting with the loader. I know flash drives have issues (you can't dump a game to a flash drive, or it will freeze, but it's not a loader issue, it's a console issue)
Maybe the SSD is reacting like flash drive/usb sticks. but the issue is only on write (well, downloading a cover involve write access so maybe it's related).

question on this bit
"Go to SD card and select the "Tales of Symphonia" savegame."

where are you getting this savegame file from. is that part of the hack file you download for the game.?
