No you don't. Hex editing is entirely possible without FEFTwiddler. Use the guide in my signature.

Omg Omegablu you have to add Your custom title as a death quote for Kilma xD. Have you been planning on doing Anthony? For some reason he has an AID but I never recalled seeing a model of him before.

So, I was bored and decided to look at the AIDs when I saw Layla's. I got excited for a moment because I looked at her hair and it looked like hers in the portrait. So I loaded her in and to see it was some weird villager. Like seriously. Why even add an AID? #RipLaylaDreams

There was one was thing I wondered,
Can we even make the final boss (revelations) a playable character like a anankos but remove the model he uses so it shows a blank unit like anankos does?
And is there a version of Owain and the other 2 people from awakening using their name and model from the hidden truth dlc we can add as playable characters?

Owain, Severa, and Inigo are coming. They've got a few bugs that I need to sort out before an official release.
