Hi guys;
So yeah, basically, i want to know, what custom firmware you use, and mostly WHY!?
If you select a custom firmware, please explain why you do prefer that one, as in, what differs from others, or what is it's advantage.

Also, please specify your setup as example:
MenuHax -> CtrBootManager -> AuReinand
BrowserHax -> RxTools
Mset -> Cakes
MenuHax -> Reinand

Ill start saying that i use AuReinand, Simple install, does its job, unofficial cia support, auto-boot, compatible with every 3DS model.
Used to use RxTools, then i got somehow confusing, and also, at the points i stopped, i wasn't able to make it boot with a 3dsx file.

I don't see Gateway listed. It's actually a CFW too.

My second choice is rxTools, for when I want to quickly start up without my red card inserted. I might look into others later, but I've really only been using Gateway lately.

[Edit] Since we're doing this now:
Menuhax -> CtrBootManager -> Gateway.

In the semi-rare event I start rxTools:
Menuhax -> CtrBootManager -> RxTools' code.bin. (The 3dsx launcher is extremely unstable in my experience)

Could we get a multiple-choice option on that poll please? I use RxTools on my O3DS XL and 2DS, and I use ReiNAND on my N3DS XL, by the way... :)

you should also specify: CFW + menuhax, CFW + a9lh, CFW + MSET, CFW + Browser
Added to OP. Thanks!

unless you have cubic ninja :)
Exactly.

but who uses the cubic ninja method? it only supports <=9.2 sysnand if i recall. it doesn't provide any advantages.
You will be surprised.. trust me.

NTR and Palantine aren't even relevant options. NTR is more of a CFW add-on than a CFW itself, and Palantine isn't even updated past 4.x.
Still, palentine its a CFW.

I don't see Gateway listed. It's actually a CFW too.
Its KINDA a CFW, its mostly a Card, but there, listed.

I use AuReiNAND because...

  • It doubles as a Arm9LoaderHax boot manager which cuts out the fat of one payload another payload at normal 3DS startup, meaning less time between me and my home menu when I press power, it also means getting into TWL and AGB firm is faster for those DS and GBA titles.
  • It's the least intrusive CFW, with no noticeable differences to stock to the untrained eye
  • It's got a good baseline feature set to work with. (Region Free, Patched TWL, Patched AGB, Updated SysNAND mode)
  • It's not falled victim to feature creep, like RxTools for example which had a lot of features, but became a bit slow and bloaty as a result.
