Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon could potentially just be the big surprise of Nintendo's upcoming direct, as trademark filings from Europe reveal. Both listings just popped up in the OHIM database today and were filed by Nintendo.

I don't think any Pokemon game has that power. I mean think of all it took to make Kalos and Hoenn themselves and then times than by at least 3.

Officially the size limit of a 3DS cart is 8GB, Pokemon X and Y are 1.7GB. It seems fair to say that each other region wouldn't be as big, as you don't have to repeat a lot of the data (mechanics, pokemon/pokedex entries, etc. etc.), so lets assume, each additional region at most would be 1.2GB, quick math: 1.2 x 5 = 6GB + the established 1.7GB = 7.7GB

To me, it seems like its probably possible to fit all 6 regions in a single 3DS cart. Perhaps a few places would have to be made inaccessible like the Safari Zone in Gold and Silver to fit, but I think it could be possible.

DSi isn't a new Unit per se, like how the DS was to GBA or how 3DS was to DS.

Hardware revisions don't count.

I highly doubt it. That would make the cartridge explode. And the gen 3 region already had a remake. Also collecting 48 badges is overkill. Pokemon can only level up to 100.

I think what would be smart is that at each region you'd be required to only use pokemon found in that region at gyms and the Pokemon league of that region, that way, when you get to each new region, you're forced to start a new team, so by the time you're done with the game, you have at least 48 powerful pokemon that you can customize teams with. Just some mechanics would have to change to make it work, but I think it could work.

Generations are counted by the amount of Pokemon that exist are introduced and totalled in that generation.

(Which usually is tied to a new region being released)

Gold and Silver were both original Gameboy games. DP and Black/White were all on DS. That makes 4.

considering that character models and move animations are probably the biggest chunk of data on those modules, i'd guess you could put in 10 regions.

but the thing is, it will never happen. because remaking all those maps and putting stuff into them and all that jazz, is actually a crapton of work. just ask everyone who ever made their own region in a romhack.
it was just barely feasible with gold and silver cause they could literally recycle most of what they wanted.
but now you have to remake t hose maps. and that just takes ages. and its not worth it from a developers point of view
