Rockstar's parent company Take-Two files trademark opposition dispute for Remedy's new logo

Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two, has filed trademark dispute against Remedy's new logo, which was unveiled to the public back in April of 2023.

Take-Two opened an opposition dispute for Remedy's new logo starting on September 12th, 2023. Even though the Remedy logo was unveiled on April of 2023, the logo itself didn't get filed as a trademark until May of 2023, almost a month later, and while the two logos from Rockstar and Remedy are quite different in design, the one thing that both logos share between is a stylized letter "R", though it still remains to be seen whether this could hold up when the dispute is properly reviewed.

This isn't Take-Two's first outing in a legal battle, as they have been quite active in the legal front, filing for a trademark claim against the popular and Game of the Year winner "It Takes Two" due to the similarities between the game's name and the company's, and some time ago they also sued the developers behind the GTA reverse engineering projects, known formely as "re3" and "reVC".

The dispute currently remains in an "opposition" state, with the period for the opposition ebeing xtended as of August 8th, 2023 up to September of 2023, and as of today there's still no public ruling from the case.

This must be really awkward for Remedy who is actively working with Rockstar on the Max Payne remakes...

You know what you're right. Either Take Two is fuckign stupid...or there is more to this...

This could be a shitass attempt for Take Two to coerce Remedy into selling out to Take Two in exchange to drop the case.

I remember the political discourse of Prey 2 when rumors said that Pete Hines wanted Human Head and when they refused to sell to Bethesda (for their low ball offer)....all of a sudden Bethesda refused to provide final funding for Prey 2 (a game that was apparently almost fucking complete) and "cancelled" it. Seems Bethesda got to acquire them in 2019 anyway.

Anyway....Take Two probably saw dollar signs with the success of Alan Wake 2 and want all of their talent and studio. If this is not an attempt of a hostile takeover, it's really fucking stupid to bite the hand that will be feeding you money (Max Payne remakes)

what they must find awkward is when they receive the copyright strike and they are like "what ressemblance?" or "did they copyright the letter R? since when can we legally do that?"

People should boycott take two and not buy gta6 until its PS8 definitive edition port.

What am I saying, these sheep are too eager to gleven get a touch the game.

Wow... they are going all Monster Energy on this.

PS: Don't drink Monster Energy. They are a horrible company.
Speaking of energy drinks, Rockstar Games should sue Rockstar Energy. Their brand names are the same and the logos are way more similar than Rockstar's and Remedy's.

Some companies just want to be in the spotlight thinking to stay relevant as a form of publicity. They should just work on having better security instead if a brat can just waltz in and take all their data

I'm no lawyer but trademark involves how much likeness to assume one thing indifferent from the other. If that "R" assumed to be Rockstar in the public minds then its lawsuit worthy.

Next think you'll know they'll be suing Toys R Us.

View attachment 414470

That R totally looks very similar and totally not at all different, doesn't it?
I really, REALLY, want to see that happen, and Toys R us will just say "we had this logo since the 40's. and you...? :tpi: "
