Gaming Will Super Mario Maker have (local) multiplayer? I'm starting to doubt it...

No it wont have 2 player mode.. =/

you know nintendo right.. dropping the ball where they can..
its unfortunate because the game looks pretty fun, just the absence of 2 player mode makes it a no buy for me.

It's also pretty annoying they arent actively saying there is no 2 player mode in public, and they are saying stuff like "come to best buy and play mario maker with your friends".

Just like you I saw the tezuka interview. And a few things mentioned on gaf about no 2 player mode.

I dont think there has been any place they have officially said no 2 player mode, but the fact that it isnt mentioned/showcased anywhere + what tezuka said kinda confirms it.. ;/

Hopefully a patch or something will make you allow local multiplayer. Making a stage while someone else plays it on another controller. And playing together. Like need for speed most wanted U

This is gonna sound weird but I think not including multiplayer is a valid and clever design choice. This is a game about creating and editing levels and it's designed so anyone can do this. The problem is that having multiplayer limits how you can desing levels.

Levels would have to assume that up to 4 players were playing, so the level would need to have free space for all these players. This mean levels with narrow paths and too much enemies and hazards on screen would be broken for multiplayer.
Incidentally, most levels in Nintendo World Championship did have narrow paths and lots of enemies and hazards on screen.

I agree that having a multiplayer option would be nice, but if it's gonna be included in the game, the developers must consider how it changes the game. Multiplayer in Mario can work really well like in New Super Mario Bros. Wii but also work really bad like in New Super Marios Bros. 2... In my opinion, a game with a badly implemented multiplayer might as well not have multiplayer at all.

Pretty much why I want Mario games to go single-player only again. It's obvious they're held back by the constraints of a multiplayer environment. The dream of playing together on the same screen was realized but it was also a curse.

It will have multiplayer the way Super Mario Bros. had multiplayer most likely. Take turns between mario and luigi.

Honestly I think the focus for people making stages will be single player so I don't really care if it doesn't have multiplayer.

And seriously, I have played Riivolution mods and those were cool but having this game is an entirely new level of awesomeness. This is opening Mario making up to a whole new audience.

This is going to be THE ultimate 2D mario game of all time. I am super hyped!
