I made a video showing how vast and incredible this game looks at 4k with hires textures enabled. There is a bit rate hit at some parts, but I think it's good enough.

I intend on doing more in the future, since there are so many large areas in the game, but for my first video I decided to use one of the most iconic areas in the game. Anyway with xenoblade chronicles X on the way, watch this video and get hyped that we will have a more gorgeous game on the way.

It is a considerable visual improvement, even if it does make the low polygon count of the backgrounds about as visible as an extra head, and I do like to see such hacks. Though as sarkwalvein said it is still likely to bore those more used to better games.

looks pretty amazing... is that with 4k textures?

I believe the texture pack is 4k, or at least close enough. It doesn't look bad at 4k, so im assuming it's good. YOu can find the thread for the texture pack devs here.

As for the "beauty" of playing at 4k, please note that it looks ALOT better while playing. Youtube nerfs the living shit out of the bitrate while things in the video are moving, which is why at the beginning of the video when im not moving it is crystal clear, but while moving and while the grass is moving, it goes to shit. Im going to upload the original video for download, but be warned it is over 4gb in size. ^.^

I'll post a download link when it's done. This may take an hour or two. My upload speed is abysmal.

That looks surprisingly good. It almost looks like a modern PC game. Didn't think the Wii was capable of showing all that dynamic grass.
Apart from blocky models it looks great.

Yes it's amazing how much grass is onscreen at once. o.o
Although being fair, the grass does have popins and outs that are very noticeable and you can tell the grass turns so that it's always facing the same direction towards the camera.
Still though, it's amazing what the wii could do. It had some really great looking games, considering it was 2 gc's ducktaped together. I think another beautiful game that showed what the wii could do is mario galaxy, but thats for another video. ;)

The main thing that terribly impacted the Wii's graphical performance on a decent display was nothing more than the low resolution. This is horribly obvious on a 1080p HD display being played on the Wii U. Not that the textures on other consoles/PCs made at the time fare all that much better on a modern display. 4K (a misleading term, it's really only nearly twice as good as the now-standard 1080p resolutions) is perhaps somewhat overkill for a game that natively plays in 480p, especially on anything less than a wall projector. But, then again, rendering at a resolution that big ensures that any visual imperfections are unnoticable to the human eye.

The GPU was actually really quite good. Funny, since it was basically the same one that the Gamecube used.

Most Wii/GC games still look amazing in HD with AA/AF despite the low resolution textures. Xenoblades looks breathtaking on my SDTV, too bad it is locked in a 16:9 aspect ratio for no apparent reason considering the Wii can't output more than 480p.
