Yeah, its for 3.2, the 3.1.1 didn't have support for the n3ds mset exploit. Its just an alternate way to reinstall the mset exploit though.

Ok so my plan is as follows:

1. Get cubic ninja
2. transfer GW ultr update 3.1 to internal n3ds mSD card
3. do qr code trick
4. backup sysnand
5. pull mSD and transfer the sysnand backup to desktop pc for safe keeping
6. reinsert mSD in n3ds
7. qr code trick to get back into GW mode
8. format emunand, (wait, need bigger mSD card for this)
9. backup emunand to desktop pc the same way as step 5
10. Use another mSD inside n3ds the rest of the instructions
11. transfer GW ultra 3.2 to mSD on n3ds
12. boot into GW mode again using qr code trick
13. stick in red card with devmenu.3ds in the mSD (not the same as mSd in the n3ds)
14. load up gw mode, in sysnand, and boot devmenu
15. install mset cia to sysnand via old school devmenu
16. reboot and verify if I'm able to load up GW from DS Profile settings ( which I will figure out)

Uh that all looks like it would work, but seriously just use the 3.2 launcher, it will work with the old exploits, no need to over complicate it.

Well I haven't touched my n3ds yet and have not ran GW on it, I thought now would be a good time to put it through its cycles to get it up to speed on GW installs. Therefore no emunand no nothing.

Don't know if anyone has noticed this yet (didn't sift through pages), but it looks like with the downgraded MSET, you can reformat the system without unlinking your NNID or being forced to update. I just unlinked my NANDs this way.

System format doesn't force you to update... You're thinking of system transfer.

15.5 install the v0 whitelist, or flashcardtimewarp.cia so you can use the bluecard to reinstall the profile exploit should it ever go missing whatever reason, then you will no longer need CN/oot under any circumstance (unless you do something silly like re-update MSET)

After step 9 that you backup yor emunand to you pc, format sysnand with the micro sd removed from the n3ds. An then boot you sysnand again with your microsd in the n3ds. This will create a new folder in your microsd and unlink your sysnand from emunand

I read somewhere else that N3ds doesn't support older DS white lists. If it does, where can I get a v0 whitelist? 3dsNus, or do I have to go googling?

Hey all.

OK so its been ages since I updated my GW card.

I think I am currently on the first (or 2nd) release that introduced emunand support. Running on 4.5 uk regular 3DS XL.

So ......couple of questions.

1. Do I need to rerun the gateway blue card installer? (to get a newer version of base software installed perhaps?)
2. Will I need to wipe my SD card again? It has an Emunand on it currently, though its a way out of date version. Or does it use the old version automatically and just allow me to update that

If yes to 2, then how easy is it to backup current GW save games - my son will have a right strop if he loses his Pokemon progress :)

Finally, got the rop installer to work with this :P Attached.

I can only test on USA n3ds so, EU and JPN let me know if it works for you too.

If not, please install the GW menu NVRAM installer then immediatly dump your DS profile with this app
https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-nvram-flash-manager.383838/
and send it to me (just the last 0x200 bytes of your nvram, i don't want to know your wifi password :P )

Anyone already test this in EUR/AU Console ?

Does anyone know if the MSET install doodah thingy majiggy will work with the 2ds? (I also need to ask if the 2ds is considered new/old/whatever; not old since old only applies to 3ds+3dsxl, but with everyone talking only about 3ds's and N3ds's, It begs the question, what about the 2ds?) I remember someone asked previously, but no one has answered them. Anyone with a 2ds ever test this? ;3

I have a New 3DS on 9.0.0-E sysnand, 9.5 emuNand. I did all the step, when I reboot in sysnand nothing happen on DS profil. Can someone help?

just use a second fresh formatted micro sd for the process, put on new launcher+mset of your 3ds region,at the end of all, turn off your consolle, throw out that microsd and put the one with your previous emunand and it works for sure :)

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
