Based on this thread from Smash Boards.
What would you think of an amiibo-only tournament?
A while ago, there was someone who entered a Fox amiibo in a Smash Wii U tournament, the amiibo nearly won, ranking in 3rd place.

Do you think having an amiibo-only tournament would be a good idea?
A quote sorta about this from a friend:
"i feel like having amiibos against a real player tournament is kind of unfair."

Since I didn't put my opinion on the OP...
I think it would be a pretty good idea, betting money on your amiibo that you've spent time and effort training and perfecting it's technique.
You could also send the amiibo to tournaments, and watch the tournament streams. Sending the amiibo to the tournament would be less expensive than sending yourself, and you could watch your amiibo competing inthe tournament.
(An idea mentioned in the Smash Boards forum.)

oh no
i can see it now
the huge-ass amiibo prices
hundreds of dollars
for a plastic figure
Since it's already like that, better add an extra zero.

Are you all finally realizing that Smash is a shit fighting game and just a fun party game?

I mean if goddamn CPUs can get close to winning tournaments then it's not a "competitive" game.

To be fair, the Amiibos blatantly cheat and have much higher stats than a normal human player. (I do agree though.)

Care to elaborate how it prevents SSB be a competitive game? In chess, the engines beat the human players, and I don't see how it makes chess less competitive.

Apples and oranges. Chess is based on logic. Fighting games are based on dexterity and speed. A computer can calculate any number of outcomes in a game of chess. It can't predict your action in a fighting game. Well, a good one at that.

How the existence of a good "SSB engine" makes the game noncompetitive? I just fail to see. You suggest it is noncompetitive because it depends on luck? Maybe you're saying the human players are weak and have a lot to learn, and can use the machines to it, like it happens in chess?

It sure as hell can read your input though. You could probably set up a SF2 bot to perfect parry every single attack you do based on your input and/or attack the moment you let go of guard. The smash bots love their frame-perfect shields.

Well, I think that amiibos are little digital "machines" - they can be programmed to do anything. Kick your butt soft, hard, medium. It's just a electronic game after all. Without items and stuff it should be quite easy to create the perfect amiibo that wins every time.

I'm more concerned about that haircut.

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
He couldn't eat until after his MRI, when he had a bomb pop.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
What matters now is that he's doing alright.
