Hello all. So i recently installed homebrew successfully on my vWii and am loving it. It has opened my eyes to the whole homebrew scene and want to get further into it with my next step being my Playstation 3.

So after some research i have found not any normal PS3 can be installed with homebrew only the PS3 2000 Slims or the FAT are working with CFW and must be upgraded to 3.55 OFW before any modding can commence.

SOOOO i delved into my nearby pawn shops with no luck on finding a unit that matched either of these requirements so i resulted to eBay and now am waiting for my 3.55 Slim to arrive in the mail. In the meantime I want to gather as much information and would like to get as much feedback as possible before i begin my hacking process.

My first and major question is, what is the best CFW (Rebug, Cobra,Dakrnet, Ferrox ETC).

Here's a list of things i would like to do.

-Play PS3 Backups from an External HDD
-Play PS2 Backups from an External HDD
-Play Ps1 Backups from an External HDD

My Second Question is What loader (like Multimann) is the best and runs games without hiccups and is most recently updated and receives constant updates?

My Third Quesiton is How do i obtain the Artwork for the games in Multiman or Irishman? Are they automatically put on there?

My Fourth question, is there a possible way to play ps1/ps2 games from a nice library assortment like Multimann or are these 2 consoles both left in obscurity and stuck with a generic listing of the games with no artwork.

My Fifth Question Do i need a ps3 game inside the unit at all times to run games from Multimann or Irishman?

My Sixth Question is, If i played Dark Souls/DS2 with the online functionality active is there a major chance of IP/PSN ban? Is it worth it?

Also any constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

1 - Stick with Cobra, does the job
2 - I use IrisMan, no problems yet
3 - Grabs them automatically
4 - Not alot of experience in this field, next
5 - Used to need it, not anymore
6 - Use PSNPatch, boot up your game using IrisMan, then run PSNPatch, then sign into psn network, its not fool proof but it helps alot. only issue you have to restart ps3 everytime you want to change game as PSNPatch hides CFW system calls, thus making homebrew not work until system is rebooted. I've been doing this and no ban yet (touch wood) just dont be silly and play games online before their street date

thanks for the quick response. Your post nailed it and answered most of my questions. Are you able to run ps1/ps2 backups without a hitch using cobra?

I haven't had any problems but then again I haven't tried many games. Give it a go yourself

PS2 games can only be launched from the internal HDD (last time I checked, or some managers might auto copy the iso?), and compatibility on slims isn't great. PS1 games work fine though.

1 .Last post is correct. PS2 is only on internal HDD - cannot play from external regardless. If you can't find a old CECHA or BC model with the EE chip still in it - the compatibility is pretty bad - like 30% of the library is somewhat playable. PSX is great.

2. Depends on what you want to do. They all effectively can do the same thing. If you're cool with minimalistc interfaces, Webman works well. The rest are very similar and contain other swiss army style tools.

3. There are packages you can install - some can be downloaded automatically

4. Not sure what you meant here. If you're asking if they are in a list with artwork, you can do it manually, however Multiman splits them in the retro column. Webman does a better job with PS2/PS3/PSX/PSP separation.

5. You do if you're for some reason running non-Cobra/mamba versions and using JB rips. Use ISO's and avoid all that with awesome compatibility.

6. There are plenty of spoofers out there for connecting to PSN safely. However, it's recomended not launching homebrew or mounting games once connected. Also playing with modified files is a quick way to find out. There are a few games with anti-mod checks like CoD and such. There's no guarantee against not getting banned so if you do, prepare to lose any purchased PSN content. If you play normally, the chance is much lower. Been on PSN for 3 years without a ban, but never really do much. It's more a matter of when, then if. Avoid going on PSN when a new system firmware version comes out.
