I thought this was just going to be another one of those "Is it possible" threads.
I edited the thread title to add [Homebrew].
that's the current way some devs are using to mark released projects.

I'll see if we can have an official tag for released homebrew.

Is it possible to have a version of this app where you can set the number of Play Coins digit per digit as opposed to 10 100 or 300? It wouldn't be much use since auto 300 is better, but it was what I was expecting when I opened this app.

That's what I was expecting too. Its possible.

Hey very well done, I'm quite impressed!
Now the next step is to put in streetpass miis that you can get from a homebrew app right?

Out of curiosity, would it be possible through Ninjhax's userland access to modify the amount of steps taken on the Home Menu's Step Counter? Seeing as modifying the amount of Play Coins is possible? Asking of course for the 4,001 steps a day you need to take for Pokémon's O Powers as there are those rainy days when you can't go out for a walk.
Yes. Actually, you can try it out yourself... right now, if you look at the source for playcoin.c, it edits filebuffer[0x4] and filebuffer[0x5], which 3dbrew documents as being the offsets for the play coin count in gamecoin.dat. By modifying it so that offsets 0xC - 0xF are edited instead, the step count can be changed.

Alternatively, use the precompiled version to extract gamecoin.dat, and use a hex editor to manually change the stepcount.

Ah ok, now clear, thanks. So this mean, exdata, playcoin, theme, dlc and updates? XD
Probably not updates, but otherwise yes.

BTW , i think you should remove the link

isn't the actual coin sitter is forbidden ?
This isn't actually based on the SDK play coin setter. I just borrowed the name.

Is 300 the max its possible to have?
The home menu automatically resets it to 300 if it's any higher, yes.

Yeah... I was kinda lazy with this since I can't really see any use case not covered by 300/10/0.

3dbrew mention that if coin.dat is corrupted, the system menu refuse to launch (calling svcBreak).
to fix it, it only requires you to delete the file from your SD card? or do you need to make a backup first to restore it in case of need?

I haven't tested the claims of bricking, for obvious reasons. I don't know whether it's still an issue on the current system version, but if it is, neither this app nor messing with the SD card will help in any way to undo it.
