My theory is that an exploit has been in the works for a minute (well duh). The public push of the exploit though, had to be carefully meditated. This is how I have it processed in my mind.

1. exploit (maybe similar to ssspwn, maybe ssspwn. smealum said a week, fishy coincidence if you ask me. yeah I know "homebrew only" and I'm no programmer, but I figure if you have an exploit you can make it run retail things.)
2. dev work with cart makers ie. unknown company sky3ds, r5(sounds like a r4 upgrade on paper, good marketing) then gw [all probably the same company]
3. release it all within a few weeks first with 10 rom limit, then r5 18(?) rom limit, and gw fw update allowing fw 9.2 natively
4. ????
5. max profit (sell sky3ds max 120usd, card with limitations first get a bunch of scrubs, no offense, with extra spending money to purchase for n3ds 2ds, same with r5, and then release a fw update for a card thats been out, gw)

I saw someone reply saying something similar earlier in another thread so I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a cute little monopoly on the market that we all are unaware of cause of the "many" options we're given. I don't know how feasible this is but it sounds like the best way to make money off an exploit.

I've read that, but it implies that Gateway 3DS for 4.5 can store 100 games on a 128GB MICROsd card, it has nothing to with gateway for 9.2

They are upgrading the same card through FPGA chip. If they did it to add multirom menu, it would make no sense to remove it especially if their chip can handle it. Sky3ds was a hardware limitation that THEY THEMSELVES set on for cash grabs

I think it is more likely they already knew how to do it, but didn't release it as it could be easily blocked. Now SKY3ds is released there is no reason to hold it back, as it will be blocked now anyway.

Since they're so specific about it needing 9.x specifically, I wonder if it uses a new exploit that only exists on 9.x?
That would be great news if they actually have an exploit, so we can keep GW mode/emuNAND and all of its benefits :)

Indeed that seems to be the case, that they already knew how to do it. However I'm not so sure it's actually the same method the Sky3DS is using. That remains to be seen.

theres your problem right there. not every exploit is the same. smealums exploit can not be used to run games

Sky3ds isnt really using any "exploit". Their built-in chip emulates real carts. There is no software launcher involved at all.

Although I do agree with the part that gateway doesnt wanna lose potential sales.

its still an exploit, you are exploiting something.

FYI this was my response from Gateway

"We can't comment on the new 9.x features yet, this is not fully completed yet
and we do not want to speculate even if we are near.

We will soon post more news and videos on our site to give more details about
what is coming for our users.

Stay tuned and as always, enjoy!

Totally, I've already worked that scenario in my head cause I've seen that happen in the iOS jailbreaking scene more than once. I just think my conspiracy lines up perfectly with ORAS release as I think it'll be one of the biggest 3DS releases to date. Might make some people decide whether to go retail or to go new-found-exploit cart(s).

Seriously, I don't have any real "evidence" so take what I'm trying to say with a grain of salt. Either way I'm excited for the 3DS

Exactly why I said "maybe ssspwn." I wasn't specifically saying these exploits are ssspwn, but the mere fact that ssspwn exist makes its more plausible that an exploit is exploited for max $$$$ but I'm just speculating for the sake of speculation. I feel like it's only natural to question these things, if anything, for fun.

Would it be technically possible to have a homebrew (running thanks to ssspwn for example), to switch between the games in the Gateway card without physical button?

Hi, sorry if it is already replied.

it is possiblem upgrade to 9.0 using any game released?

Update to 9.2 via wifi, if you are on 5.x and above. There is no need to use carts to update and as far as I know there is no 9.2 update on any current retail cart.

Although in literal terms, yes.
But they are not using any software or hardware flaw of the 3DS. They are just going in the root of original 3DS cartridges, giving you the choice of picking 10 games that you want to put on.

You can do an OTA update and it will bring you to a compatible firmware. Do it now while you still can.

If you have a 4.X system though, stay there.

Well Shit Gateway, I may have bad mouthed you in the past, and I was this close to pulling the trigger on a Sky 3DS. But this one move changes everything. I will definitely being getting a gateway when this is done.

My doubt is that, if nintendo release a new firmware, 9-3 or 10.0 and block this exploit, it will be lost forever, otherwise when you have a 3DS 1.0-4.0 you still can update using a retail cart to 4.1-4.5
