Thanks for taking the time to research this, and providing the first real proof of 2.0b2 causing bricks! There's no way they can deny it now, unless they accuse you of being part of the Chinese mafia :)

Not the first brick that was reported here or elsewhere, but I'll just leave it at that.

Regardless of the bricks that did happen, it's still beta firmware. Most companies just say that there will be problems with beta (read: unstable) firmware.

Why of all days, did you had to post this today :P. I'm sure with all the fuz going on, they'll delay the release again.

well the way i see it, is that if one person is made aware and avoids the chance that diagnostics poses to bricking its a good thing, and if we give gateway the benefit of the doubt that they where unaware of this bug, surely its better they now double check WHY it happens and make sure nothing else can trigger it in 2.0 final

@OP did you use emunand formatted to SD?

If you read through the thread, GQ found that both having emunand and not using emunand will result in a brick when running diagnostic. (within 1-5 Reboots)

Suggestion: If its possible, perhaps you should switch the tittle of the thread to "Running Diagnostic on GW causes brick on 2.0b2 With Video Proof."
Something along those lines so more people are aware of the diagnostic bug.

Edit:
Lol @ it will even brick you on christmas, Thats worse than a lump of coal.

i don't think the staff want people to think that its 100% sure that avoiding diagnostics will avoid bricks as you can never actually prove that it doesn't happen, even if i booted 2,000,000,000 times without a brick there is still a very slim chance that i was just really really lucky.

but if you want the figures, out of probs about 150 standard boots i got 0 bricks, and with 15 diagnostics mode boots i got 4 bricks,

that being said i still cant 100% guarantee that the bricks are 100% only when running diagnostics.....although it does seem pretty likely

That would imply diagnostics is the ONLY way to get a brick, which is not proven yet (and can't really be proven, only disproven).

nope i booted about 70 times at first but only 5 of those times i did the diagnostics...on the 5th one it bricked
aftrwards i was testing just with trying diagnostics only and the second brick was after doing diagnostics, just twice,
the third time was bricked using diagnostics 4 times. so im pretty sure the bug is actually in the diagnostics mode specifically

Thanks for doing the leg work for those of us without a pi, finally some proof instead of wild speculation. Gateway will likely be quite on this and just release 2.0 with no mention of bricks, I'd also like to see someone with the right gear do this test on 2.0 final, you would hope gateway would be testing this thoroughly these past couple of months.

Based on your testing I might finally take the leap and switch to 2.0b2 but the day I do they'll release 2.0f. Bravely default should keep me busy for a while so no reason to make unnecessary changes.

Again thanks for all your testing, my 3DS thanks yours for suffering such abuse.

This might be a glitch in the diagnostics tool completely unrelated to the whole "bricking code" debacle. If there is a problem with the software, Gateway has to address this in their future releases for the sake of their customers. It's best is they know about the problem, Skyrider.

Watch this never hit the front page
Take the tinfoil hat off - there's no thinly-veiled agenda going on on GBATemp. Hell, Devin openly stated in his review that the new firmware bricked his system.

Stupid question I know, but I've been running b2 for a long time now, and never ever ran Diagnostics. The most I've ever done is boot GW classic for my carts, and mostly just let it go automatically to GW mode without holding L.

What exactly is Diagnostic modes doing? I've just never run in before.

Because the OP is a Gateway Hater, and wants to delay the release of 2.0 final as much as possible *irony*

I would be more than okay with the release being delayed, if it meant that there would be zero new bricks. gamesquest1 isn't doing this to point the finger at anyone, or to be a Gateway hater, or for any other reason than just genuinely trying to contribute to the scene and to find a solution to a problem that several people have personally experienced, and hundreds of others are at risk of running into.

I don't get why people who are actually DOING something are still getting shat on by people who've contributed nothing to the scene whatsoever.

Because they're entitled to think that they deserve something.

His replacement 3ds is on it's way since I last talked to him (today). Since many people seem to want this to be front page news, I'd like to add something here.

gamesquest1 has said, this is one possibility of a brick. It is nowhere certain that it is directly caused by only one thing. If we post this everywhere, well see people saying something else bricked their console and we're at point zero. Since this is the situation, we will be monitoring the situation. There isn't much else we can do since we are not in any way part of the people responsible for the Gateway card.
