If I'm on a firmware greater than 4.5 should I even bother holing out for firmware 6.X support? Has there been any indication that anything will be supported in the future?

Nope. None. Nada, Niet. Zilch. When it'S announced that it will be supported, GBAtemp will announce it.

Unfortunately the exploit was patched above 4.5. A new exploit has to be found to work on 5.1 and above. It may never happen again.

IMO you should better buy a system on 4.1-4.5. Very soon, you won't find any since everyone is rushing to buy one.

For anyone still having questions about Gateway installation or pre purchase questions if you visit their official page and go to Downloads, at the bottom there is a video guide that covers everything Gateway related. I just followed it and got my Emunand updated safely within minutes. Definitely easy to follow and I recommend it for new users.

Use the same tool that it's used to write roms to the MicroSD. Select your SD and instead of Write, you will select Read this time.

Edit: Mmmm you probably are wondering about the actual NAND, there's a topic about it here, it involves soldering.

It's really, really confusing. There are so many conflicting comments, but the majority is that it does not work beyond 4.whatever.

I'm pretty surprised this isn't included in an updated sticky so people aren't asking all the time.

Gateway's site has an FAQ which asks about it; they say they're still working on it. So, that confirms it doesnt, but not to lose hope.

Still blown away and how hard it is to find this info, yet everyone gets crabby when someone asks.

Thing is, in an ideal world, this type of information could be very quickly searched using the search feature in the top right hand corner of the page.

A lot of forum vets around here get really irritated because the same questions get asked day after day after day when it's evident that new users are not even bothering to look for things that are literally right there.

some people are just ready to jump on those and say things.
Why talk about it all over the forum and spend one whole page on "omg you posted, there is google you know you this, you that"

But i guess if there are people who sometimes don't look (like my self, since i dont feel like it) and just ask and expect people to answer or not, they are trowing punches.. there are also people who are bothered by those things. I'm glad they are not admins i guess! -.-

Well, you are in your best right to post whenever you feel like it if it isn't against the temp rules.
On the same basis everyone is in his/her best right to react irrated to questions which have been answered before especially if the are answered in the first post of a stickie or the wiki. That is as long as it isn't on a "Noobs, ask away" thread (like http://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-noob-paradise-ask-questions-here.359035/).

Ever heard the modern day version of an old proverb "Give a man a fish and he will have food for a day, teach a man how to use google, wikipedia and amazon and he will be able to get himself some decent fishing gear and start a great hobby"?

if I give a help vampire (just read http://slash7.com/2006/12/22/vampires/ for a nice writeup) just the information he/she needs, he/she will never learn the basic skills of our modern, information based society.

And to get a glimpse into some of our (those who know the answers to those common questions) emotions just work in first level customer support, especially electronics/IT related.

Sort of.....you can not do online play of games with gateway with or without Emunand.......Emunand does give you eShop, Mivverse and up to date patches. If I game has spot/street pass features or local play they usually work with Gateway. If you run EmuNand in classic mode and use a retail game cartridge then online features generally work (I can only confirm Pokemon which I am playing this way and it works). From what I have heard people have bought dlc for games like Fire Emblem using the game on Gateway.....Also if you buy a game from the eShop on your Emunand system then again the online features are going to work.

So despite what anyone is saying EmuNand is quite an accomplishment. The fact Gateway got it working with 7.1 so quick after their 6.3 beta is a good sign. The new beta appears to be far more stable launching the EmuNand and dealing with game saving. The reason roms run on Gateway can't play online is because they have a unique ID, or should....but every Gateway player would look the same to this system which aint gonna work......Gateway has to find a way to randomize/spoof the cartridge ID to ever get online working for roms. I'd say if you really want to play a game online (like Pokemon) then just buy it and use the Gateway to play the dozens of other great games you might have missed.

We wish a happy new year to all Gateway users around the world. 2014 will be a great year for us with a lot of things to come!

We have been working hard to release our final 2.0 firmware in 2013 as we know you are all highly expecting it. Because we want to make sure to offer a stable and fully tested product, we are slightly delaying our next update to the early days of 2014.

Note: User feedback for GW2.0b2 has been overwhelmingly positive. The absolute stability of our beta menu system was an important milestone for us prior to pushing out the FPGA update required for some of the new features.

Well then, that settles that. "Early days of 2014" could mean that on January 11th, Gateway announces that the final 2.0 update will be delayed to "sometime in Q1 2014." I just wanna play Pokémon, damnit!* Don't get me wrong, the 2.0b2 update was a huge improvement over b1 and I'm happy with it. I got tons of other games to play anyway.

* If you're thinking about replying to bitch and moan about someone else wanting to play Pokémon, don't. It's a franchise that is loved by many, so get over it.

It's not exactly clear, and there are a lot of new comers everyday that the only thing they know about a 3DS is they're pretty sure they own one.

Currently, the whole 3DS flashcart scene isn't exactly noob-friendly. My belief is that it really isn't something that noobs are ready for yet, so the "7.1 support" is only misleading to those people that aren't ready to participate in this scene yet. After all, the 3DS flashcart scene is still very much in its infancy.
