If you can't do something and other one have it - you can always copy it - it's normal on our planet. You can't blame r4i for it, they wanted to make card for 3ds - they did it, even in that way. 2.0 fw will show GW nature, and i'm 99% it won't support new 3ds firmwares and will remain supporting fws till 4.5
I don't blame them. I just say that they copied the GW and that they don't have much experience in 3DS mode.
I think, that GW won't support anything over 4.5, too. That's the reason why I bought a 3DS XL for the GW (and maybe other 3DS mode cards in the future).

another question is it possible to load the gateway "rom" from the dstwo (yes) and then load the r4i .dat file on the sd card?

Unlikely, the launcher.dat will almost certainly check for the presence of their own card before rebooting with the various software patches it applies. It would be slightly silly for them not to perform such a check in the context of protecting their business assets. (This is similar to how PS3 DRM dongle CFWs checked for the presence of the correct DRM dongle before booting with all features enable).

3ds link is that ho you had a one night stand with, and is now asking you to leave your girlfriend for her. I' have used lots of different flash carts in the past and found that a good cart is worth the premium (looking at you DSTWO). More features, better support, and the assurance that they will be around when shit hits the fan.

Also worth noting - while most of the beginning of these payloads match, the last 7/8 or so differ. This could be clones using different keys (we'd have to compare installer payloads), or it could be their tweaks affecting the rest of the blocks in the launcher (since it's AES-CBC). Anyone have the key for GW's payload they'd be willing to pass off to me? (a 16 byte chunk of system menu code)

So, 3DS Link launcher = R4 launcher = Gateway launcher with a couple strings ripped out? :P

Dirty clones are dirty indeed.

Ofcourse, 3DSLINK and R4 just copied GW. They just wait new GW filmware be released and they will copy it :P GW do a hard work, R4 and Link do a easy work.
I hope GW will support 3DS fw 6xx in the future but i think they can't support with their 2.0 update

It's impossible to support 3DS 6.x till now.
There seems to be no exploits in the 6.x system.

I have a feeling we will see Gateway 2.0 very soon....my theory is based on the fact that just about the time things get totally obsurd and insane in these forums Gateway comes riding in with something to calm the natives back down. I'm guessing us real Gateway supporters/owners can thank these clones for the latest delays.....

Gateway team likely working on some extra 'security' in their own code to try to keep the cloners from ripping them off right away. Any time they can buy themselves just helps their sales as once v2.0 hits they will have a significant advantage over the cloners especially if they can run newest roms and have multi-rom......

Keep dreaming. It should be pretty obvious that the cloning companies can only rip off the work done by the better companies. They have no skills other than copying others' work, simple as that. Wouldn't blame Gateway if they took some time to put in some kind of DRM.

I wouldn't say they have no skill whatsoever because I don't know who they are and what they're capable of. I'd say they're lazy.

While yes, they're clearly copying Gateway, that doesn't mean they have no skill. It's wholly possible that the clone company/companies end up implementing features Gateway doesn't have/won't have. It's not likely, but still possible.
I actually wouldn't mind Gateway delaying 2.0 for a little while so they can implement DRM, these clone "fanboys" are annoying me now and it would be just the kick in the face they need.
While clone fanboys are annoying, so are Gateway fanboys. The people who assume the cloners are stupid/incapable are just as wrong as those who assume Gateway is stupid/incapable. Give it some time before the actual cards come out.

And in regards to the DRM notion... no. First of all, Gateway is proof that DRM doesn't necessarily mean squat. Second, Gateway should be focused on making sure their customers are happy, not making sure the clone buyers are unhappy. All DRM would do is make it harder/impossible to copy their new update, but since anyone who pays attention to this "scene" would pick Gateway until the clones prove to be better, it's not gonna affect sales on that big of a scale.
