The reason I ask is because currently I am debating getting a Wii U, and if it is easy to get Gamecube games to run on the Wii U, it will guarantee that I purchase one. For longer than I can recall I have been wanting to see a Nintendo device run 007 Nightfire in 720p HD, I absolutely adore that game and would love the means to be able to play it the way it was meant to be played. So if I could get some feedback regarding how easy it is to run Gamecube games on the Wii U, that would be fantastic. Thanks.

Once Nintendont is fully released/coded by crediar it should be even easier than DIOS MIOS.

So I'd wait until that happens to buy a Wii U, unless you're going to get a Zelda bundle (Best version of the Wii U btw). Since it can only get cheaper

Gamecube games will never run in 720P, max they will ever run in is 480P (ones that support it) and the only way to play Gamecube games on wii u is devolution.

100% true, gamecube games will never run at a higher resolution on Wiiu.

Wii game on Wii U is not true 1080p. It is 480p that is stretched to 1080p. It doesn't even apply upscale filter your TV or Xbox 360/PS3 would.

Playing GC games on Wii U will mean the same thing, 480i or 480p stretched to 1080p.

The only way to get HD quality for GC games is to play them on Dolphin, which uprenders (actually drawing 720 or 1080p, not stretching). Buying Wii U and hoping for HD quality GameCube games is the wrong reason to buy one.

Btw, 007 Nightfire is available on PC, where you can play it on any resolution and with any controller you wish. I love that game too :)

And it begins. :P

Thanks for the advice, I've played it, but the two are totally different games, different engines, layouts, huds, missions, weapons, multiplayer, and I think asides from the lack of modding, the console version kicks the pc versions arse in every regard. That is the version I want to play in HD.

Is there somewhere I can find more info on Nintendont? Because the Devolution process sounds way too cumbersome.

No. It is not. You might as well get a GameCube. It would be easier to run them on there. A GameCube compatible Wii would work as well.

I have both of those things. I was just hoping that the Wii U would be able to run Gamecube games with higher visual quality.

What were you saying "No. It is not" to?

It won't. Only running them via Dolphin on PC will get you higher quality. Neither Wii or WIi U will improve the video quality.

Really? I notice a visual quality difference when I run Gamecube games over my Wii as opposed to my Gamecube.

Not to mention, I've previously discovered some footage of devolution on youtube showing ssbm running at 720p. Perhaps that was fake.

Even though Devolution runs GC games on Wii mode, it is still limited to 480p. No Wii game can do 720p, hence no way Devolution can uprender at 720p.

That 720p is computer upscale which occurred by capturing video from Wii using capture card.

The op is mistaken upscaling vs uprendering.
Wiiu or any other lcd tv upscales the image.
Look at it as if it would be a magnifying glass you are playing you game through.

Dolphin rerenders the image, with is the same as drawing the the in game in an higer resolution.
Those games actually have a higher resolution, consoles just upscale.

What trumpet-205 said. And I did say "No. It is not." Meaning that it is not easy to make GameCube games play on the Wii U. It might be easier than some people think, but the resolution will still be the same that it was on the GameCube and the Wii.

Well, Wind Waker runs at 1080p, so I would never say never. More than likely, Nintendo will release some gamecube games as downloadable content running at 1080p. There is nothing actually stopping a gamecube emulation engine from internally rendering polygons at 1080p. It is just a question of someone having access to the Wii U-mode hardware (or a hack workaround for vWii) and coding the proper emulation engine.

Considering that there are two "emulators" for the gamecube out for the Wii, it is hardly unreasonable that someday we might see gamecube games rendered at 1080p on the Wii U. I would not hold my breath, but this could help with the vector stretching.

Nintendo already did it with Windwaker and I bet we will see downloadable content that renders internally at 1080p, even if they don't add new textures or features.
