3DS surpasses DS's year one sales in 8 months​

The Nintendo 3DS has sold more units in its first eight months than the original DS did in its first year, according to Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aimes.
In an interview with Time, Fils-Aimes said that this past Saturday saw the 3DS surpass the sales of the first 12 months of the DS.
“The original DS sold 2.37 million and we just surpassed that this past Saturday, so we’ve got real good momentum going into the holidays,” he said.

I've tried the thing a little bit on my videogame store with Pilot wings could never adjust the 3D effect.

So i was expecting : It's Happened! The 3DS cross eyes our children!
Won't surprise me to see such news in few years, how did they test before release the long range effect of their device? Customer guinea pigs yay!

Pilotwings has crappy 3d, trust me it's much better with most other titles.

Look at the floor. Put your hand between your eyes and the floor. Now, while still looking at your hand, change your focus back to the floor. That's all you're doing when you're using the 3DS.

I can only use the 3d function for about an hour then I have to turn it off. I'm playing Zelda. It kind of makes me car sick and I'm a heavy computer user.

I think you have to look at the first 8 months of both devices to really see how they compare. The 3DS took off really slowly, but thankfully with the last few weeks having seen a few good quality releases in Super Mario 3D Land, Sonic Generations and Mario Kart 7 today, plus the Christmas season is in full swing now, I am honestly not all that surprised the 3DS has sold as well as it has. I know a lot of people were disappointed with the launch, me being one of them, but the price cut so early on and good quality games being released recently, with two more for North America in February, the 3DS will establish a solid user base at exactly the right time.
