Pokemon songs! Suh-weet!
Never played a Taiko game before. Are extra peripherals needed?
On the Wii versions, there is a Taiko drum peripheral that is only sold in Asia. You can probably find them online if you so choose, as it does make the game more fun. However, it isn't mandatory, and the game can be played with Wii Remote only (held NES-style).

What's Taiko? Guitar Hero but Japanese?

More like "Old japanese drum Hero"... I absolutely LOVE playing it in the arcades... but it's because I got to hit something with big sticks.. it's fun! On consoles, nah, not so much... (sadly!!)
