Hacking Question XCI installation fails sometimes, am I losing space?

This has only happened with really small games so I can't really tell, but sometimes when I install an XCI it just doesn't show up on the homescreen. No big deal because it usually works the second time, but I am worried that I may be using double the space by installing twice

Xci is image of cartridge.
It doesn't install anything.
You meant nsp maybe?

You can install xci ya know, well kinda there's a program that just converts to nsp in the fly and installs
