hbc will be deleted if you update to 4.2 unless you update hbc

Not if you manually download system menu 4.2 with NUS and do a quick hex edit. It only takes 4 sets of "FF" to stop not only deleting DVDx and HBC, but also stops it from deleting the Twilight hack

ok here is an explanation

FenrirWolf sent me a cIOS v14 installer

Amarok sent me 2 WAD 1.4 installers

then FenrirWolf sent me one WAD 1.4 installer

I was talking about FenrirWolf's cIOS v14 installer before

I since used WAD 1.4 installer to uninstall IOS 249

then I switched back to the cIOS v14 installer and this time it had no error

and low and behold, USB Loader GX now boots!

thank you very much to you both

more people need to know about this solution!

The cboot2 method isn't new, it actually existed before Trucha Bug Restorer.

It's harder to use than TBR, so TBR beat it in popularity.

But now that TBR won't work and cboot2 will, it's clear what option to choose.

Sure. If the TBR gets updated to work on 4.2 it'll be easier to use that, but cboot2 is nice since it'll always work as long as it's possible to install BootMii.

well technically isn't cboot2 more of a delivery system than an app?

Meaning, it doesn't actually do the installing, it is a gateway that can run other apps like WAD Manager, cIOS installer, Trucha Bug Restorer, etc.

In any case, thanks a million to FenrirWolf and Amarok, I now have neogamma and USB Loader GX back up and running. Woot Woot.

When running the cIOS Installer from cboot2 you're supposed to choose "Do not reload IOS" by scrolling waaaay to the left until you see the option.

Did you pick IOS36 when you ran it through cboot2?
Doesn't rev14 use IOS38??

Anyway, yeah. It'll be good to know if the network install worked...

yes, now that I removed the IOS249 in the WAD Manager as FenrirWolf told me too, the network install of cIOS rev14 worked flawlessly

It operates much like TBR in that it patches an IOS to have the trucha bug. It patches it in memory though, so it's not exactly the same thing.

But it does allow you to use whatever you need to use and finish up, and unlike TBR, it doesn't require cleaning up after it if you want to have clean IOS's again, because cboot2 patches them in memory.

Ahh. I thought to use 36 since that's what cboot2 patches, but since it does it in memory it would make sense to not reload the IOS.

Thanks for telling us that.

so can you run preloader with cboot2?

try that, so you can have a working preloader too, this in combination with the HAXX > JODI channel should to the whole trick imo?

most likely yes, but I do not have preloader.

all other cIOS applications work fine though, USB Loader GX, Neogamma R7, etc, etc, etc.

the difference is that you load it via bootmii/cBoot2 instead of through the Homebrew Channel, he gave it to me through PM first because it is unclear if it is allowed to post it on the board itself. We should at least have clear instructions posted though so that FenrirWolf doesn't have to walk everyone through it.

his version is just the cIOS rev 14 installer built into cBoot2 so that it loads before anything else on the wii so that it is not stopped

no he has the same.

I sent panzeroceania a cboot2 folder by pm so he could boot cboot2 from HBC > Home > Bootmii > cboot2 > wad manager 1.4 > delete ios249 > hbc > cboot2 > cios38rev14 > working usb loader gx and neogamma

It's the same cIOS Rev14 installer as you'd get anywhere else; it's always had cboot2 support. The Wad Manager was included in the download for the cboot2 installer.

can you test it for me please?

If so I can edit the first post with a fix for ppl who accidently updated their wii to 4.2 or have a totally unmodded 4.2 wii
