Hacking Wood R4 x button issues

I have an updated r4 using wood r4 1.08 with the most up to date USRCHEAT.dat file and when I try to put in cheats, the x button doesn't work. My x button works in ds games and I have enabled all the things that should make the cheats work, help?

maybe its because the usercheat.dat is not in the cheats folder
well it works perfectly on my R4 with Wood R4 v1.08
