You can obviously only acquire the eshop version with a japanese 3ds.
On N3DS NTR method is recommended. Your cartridge isn't needed for that, it actually doesn't work with NTR. Your save gets carried over though, because it's on your sd card.
Thank you. I still need to do something to get my private header? (it seems that CIA always use the console header)
That means I need to DL the game from a piracy website, or am I able to dump my game from the cartridge to the SD?
Yeah, I can't seem to get the patch to work. I have the v8 patch currently, but when I try to run the v9 patch, it just tells me the game is already installed and won't let me continue. I was thinking I could just delete the game and keep the save data, but the 3DS apparently won't let that work either. How exactly can I update to v9 without losing my save?
I'm using an o3DS on a 10.3 emunand. I installed the v8 patch using the lazy method, and attempted to update by running the v9 CIA in big blue.

this is the english patch for Monster Hunter X. It aims to help all those who import their game from Japan to enjoy the game with english text. The goal is not to translate every NPC dialog, but have most or all uis, menus, skills, items and weapons translated.

Patch Methods:
Downgrade:
If you're on 9.3-10.3 you can downgrade your 3ds to 9.2 and use CFWs for the methods described below. The downgrader seems to be as safe as it will ever get. Now is your chance before 10.4 drops.
NTR Plugin Method: recommended, requires NTR CFW 3.1, a n3ds and eshop version or cia
Copy the contents of the "NTR" folder (from NTR Plugin link) onto your SD Card. (There should be a folder called "mhx" and one called "plugin" at the root, don't rename either of them)
Launch NTR CFW (BootNTR or whatever Entrypoint you use).
Launch your game (eshop or installed cia).
The screen should flash green and start the game patched. You need to download the respective NTR Plugin version for your game version!
CIA Method: requires a way to launch a cia and a decrypted cia
You have to look up the commands for extracting and building
Extract the romfs folder from the decrypted cia merge it with the "arc" folder (from NTR Plugin link). After that rebuild cia.
Follow this tutorial for that: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-how-to-decrypt-extract-and-rebuild-a-cia.388677/
Install cia on your 3ds and play the game.
Lazy Method: requires pre-patched cia and a way to launch a cia
Acquire a pre-patched cia from a friend.
Install cia on your 3ds and play the game.
Install 1.1 update cia on your 3ds to play online.

FAQ: How do i downgrade?
What's a cia? What is NTR? How do i get a CFW?
If you have general questions about CFW and Homebrew you should start by reading about those first before thinking about patching.
Will i lose my save when updating/installing the patch? Will i lose my save when switching from cartridge to cia?
No, the save is in extdata instead of the cartrdige. Regular save backups are recommended though.
How do i backup my save?
Your save is in extra data. Therefore use Savedatafiler. Do NOT transfer it over FTP on your PC. It will corrupt due to FTP only supporting ASCII mode. Don't ask just don't do it.
Will i get banned for using the patch?
There are no trusted reports of bans with the CIA or NTR method. If you use a .3ds file you should research how to go online with a private header.
Does the 1.1 update revert the translation?
No. If you install a prepatched 1.0 cia and install the 1.1 update the translation will be kept intact. NTR isn't affected either, just use the 1.1 download link.
Does the order of installation matter?
No, install cia's in any order.
Do i have to remove a cia before installing a new one?
No, just install over the old ones.
Will you translate NPC dialogs?
NO, but if you want to do it i won't stop you.
I found an error!
Please fill out this form and we will try to fix it.

Let me sum up what I did.
I started MHX with the imported cartridge on my n3ds on 9.9 using regionfree launcher. Later I downgraded to 9.2 and installed rxtools in emunand. And the cia version of the game and the mhx 1.1 update. Inside rxtools i start NTR. Then it doesnt matter which version of the game I launch: cartridge or installed. The game starts with the english patch. I did not test if the cartridge works with the patch when the game is not installed on the system.
Both use the same savegame btw.
Sorry if this has already been asked or answered, I tried to read through the thread and didn't see it.
I'm trying to run this patch for the game, v9, 1.1.
When I do all the steps and the game starts, then flashes green, and then seems to work for a second, then crashes to the screen that says "an unexpected error has occurred, turn off your 3ds and try again later."
Not sure why this is happening, but now if i try to run my game normally (eshop version btw) it just hangs at the nintendo 3ds with red waves loading screen forever.
Perhaps i'm being a noob, but hopefully this is a relatively easy fix?
I'm running rxTools on my emuNAND on a jp n3ds,
(followed all the steps in here https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutoria...ncluding-emunand-coldboot-cia-manager.405589/
from a freshly downgraded to 9.1 jp n3ds.
I also downloaded the mhx game from the eshop while it was still at 10.3 if that makes a difference?
If i understand correctly you are trying to run eshop version of the game on firware below 9.5 wich isnt possible to my knowledge. You need a firmware spoofed cia to run it on fw <9.5
I'm not sure if this has been asked before (this thread is getting pretty big ), but are there plans of translating the default message buttons when in multiplayer? Just saying something like "thanks" or "no problem" etc. would be a great help. Thanks to the team and contributors for all of your hard work! I love this damn game...
just edit them yourself, we did translate them at first but they would crash your game on edit. if you mean the messages of other players: that's not possible.

I meant for example, a default message "thank you" in japanese could say thank you on our end in English. So when you choose the "Thank you" selection, it will write it in jpn.
