Ok am I the only one pissed right now about the Wiikey team and their lies that gave us poor consumers false hope?

I should've just bought Cyclowiz or something like that. I got a NTSC-U wii and i got the Wiikey because it made my wii able to play NTSC-J wii games. But as shown so did the Cyclowiz that never promised any updates with their update just a few weeks after the Wiikey came out.

Now you'd think the Wiikey should be able to do the other things it promises without demise but noooo. All gamecube games doesnt work as the should and what about the gamecube games being regionfree when installing the chip :/ Lies!

Anybody seen/read anything that might indicate an actual update coming or should i just switch to a open software chip?

Thanks for your time through my rantings.

When I bought my WiiKey a few months back, I didn't think they would ever be able to issue an update (despite their claims). I didn't look much into the implementation of the chip, but from gut feeling the chip is only connected to the "check if disc is valid" signals, and isn't connected to the system's memory at all. And with no way to communicate with the chip, it'd be mighty hard to change it. Is there even any flash memory on the board?

/speculation

Then their setupdisc would be totally bogus you mean? As you can switch read speed and region patching

Now I'm glad I decided to stick with my homemade Wiinja V2 which has the Audiofix, instead of buying the Wiikey.
I dont really care about the wiinja v2 not being region free, when it only takes seconds to patch the iso.

im glad ive got the wiikey its good

I agree, so far so good. When Big N releases some games that don't work with the Wiikey then I'll have something to complain about. Until then I am 100% happy with the wiikey.

What about the audiofix and handful of gamecube games that don't work? It doesn't affect me and I couldn't care less. If the wiikey team ever releases an update (doubtful at this point) it still won't affect me. WHO CARES? Yeah, granted, it's not right to advertise a function on your chip that doesn't work, but that doesn't stop it from being a great chip.

So anyway OP, go buy a new chip if you want. It doesn't matter to me how you choose to waste your time/money.

It plays all the wii games for you region. It also plays some games from other regions. Until a wii game doesn't work, we can't really complain. Being able to play gamecube games is a bonus. Though I don't like being told lies when things are going to be released, just to sell more.

I got lucky and started shopping for a mod just when it started looking grim that the wiikey update wasn't gonna happen. I'm reeeeally happy with the wiinja deluxe.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
