Whether its via trinux or any other plaform, all I care about and want is Kodi on my WiiU. My Raspberry Pi is way too slow navigating the UI and its such a pain to plug in my laptop via hdmi to my tv every time. I also don't want a clunky htpc next to my tv. My WiiU is already connected and I could just fire up Kodi in a jiffy.
the RPi2 is pretty good with Kodi/XBMC.

The main thing I'm worried about with all this homebrew and OSes people are naming is the fact that if I'm going to be using an alternate OS, it's gotta use the gamepad well. Desktop OSes are built around using a cursor to interact with things. At least try to use the hardware you're being given instead of trying to do something just to do it, and if you're gonna do it, do it well.

And this is why I stand by my Android suggestion. Android is built for touch screens.

DarkSide OS is the next-generation, scalable, synergistic foray into the modern era of advanced integrative operating system design, providing its users with an unmatched immersive experience through human-interface touch-based sensors.

Hell yeah lol

Is there a ppc build of Android? Or would devs need to make one? Android is a good starting point. I also really like the DarkSide idea. Anything touch event driven really.

Even if there was a PPC version, it'd probably be best to just rewrite it from scratch utilizing IOSU (considering how well built it is). Most of the work's already done for you, with the Nintendo Seal of Approval :P

Just out of curiosity, but how far down the line does everyone think we're actually away from being able to boot backups from a HDD? I know, I know, I'm probably asking people to shake a magic 8 ball here but I'm just curious how long it may take given how fast everyone is learning more about the system.

you mean with the game in drive and running modded files off hdd without use of pc? because they already load backups with caffiine you just need the disc in the drive as well.

Given anybody with the skills to isn't interested (outside of the fabled ODE people), never.

That just sounds.... awesome. I was looking at the website (http://www.darksideproject.com/contents/darksideos/why.php) does that little bit at the bottom mean that OSX, and Windows, apps will run 'natively' on it???

Reminds me of that Phantom video game console that was allegedly going to be compatible with everything. I'd completely ignore it until something is actually made available for sale and reviewed, if I were you. No use getting your hopes up about something that stinks of vaporware in the worst way.

Not to say that this isn't sound advice in general, but just so you're aware, Marionumber1 is actually the creator and lead developer of that project.

I'm new here, but I assume that indicates that there's actually a chance of something as wildly ambitious-sounding as that to be a thing that happens?

Yes, he's the main author of everything that's happened to the Wii U homebrew scene over the past yearish, with BootROM dumping, getting all the Espresso keys, the old Webkit exploit, and the kernel exploit (and of course I was there to test everything for him :P)

hey guys just a quick question, before I pull the trigger on a wii u

the only other peripherals I need now is an exploit game and a 2gig sd card to run nintendont and homebrew channel, right?

and dose it matter which game I pick? is there advantages some hold over others or should I just go for the cheapest one?

If your talking about installing the Homebrew channel on vWii, yes.

See HERE for a list of exploits, and HERE for a guide.

Custom linux drivers could be written for the Wii U gamepad, giving Trinux (in U mode) the ability to utilize it.

That being said, writing drivers is above my skill level, but i know that Ninja_Carver wrote a lot of the drivers for the vWii himself. I cant speak for him though on whether or not hes up to the challenge of writing gamepad drivers for U mode.

On a side note, i want to see a plethora of alternative OS's flourish on the Wii U, the more the merrier! As the scene matures and we reach the point of having multiple alternative OS's on the Wii U, I'll be one of those nut jobs with all of them on my Wii U including the official CafeOS XD

I'll add this over to the idea thread!
