The Wii U GamePad :yayu: is going to become a relic that will become increasingly harder to find as they break down, go missing, are destroyed, batteries die etc. Inevitably resulting in scarcity of working GamePads while many working consoles will likely remain in abundance.

Many Wii U games will not launch without a GamePad present.
Some games are compatible with the WiiMote :yaywii: and Wii U Pro Controller :yayone: and can be played without the USE of the GamePad, however WILL NOT LAUNCH unless you have a GamePad connected. Other games will launch but then require the GamePad after loading.

There are many games that will launch without first checking for GamePad connection and can also be played with the WiiMote (Classic Controller / Nunchuk) and/or Wii U Pro Controller.

It is worth noting that you will need a Wii U GamePad to set up a console. This could be borrowed for setup then returned with no further need to own a GamePad after setup / homebrew / game installing is complete

Here is my list of Wii U Games that work without requiring the Wii U GamePad accessory. I have tested every one of these games personally.

Game Compatiblity Legend:
2P+ = Number of players (if Multiplayer)
W = Game works on WiiMotes without attachments
N = Game works with WiiMote+Nunchuk
C = Game works with WiiMote+Classic Controller
P = Game also works with Wii U Pro Controller
99% = Some game content inaccessible without GamePad

Games that work with WiiMote ( Classic Controller / Nunchuk ):yaywii:
Most of these games are also compatible with the Wii U Pro Controller

There appears to be a method of using FTPiUU to edit the meta.xml files to allow more games to work without the GamePad, credit to Zaweet! I will test games with this method and add any that work. If you have the ability to edit the game's .XML file, you can change the "drc_use" tag in the game's meta.xml from a 2 to a 1 to bypass the home menu GamePad block.

For a list of Physical DISC Games that work without the GamePad, click here.
Wii U Discs you can play WITHOUT the GamePad | GBAtemp.net

I will be updating this list until completion!
Please let me know of any that I missed and I will verify and add them.

Can I suggest that you don't use white writing in the thread. It's near impossible to read on some themes especially Rosey Blossom.

Also... Worth noting that Breath of the wild CAN be played with the pro controller however there are a good few shrines that require motion control to be completed, therefor gamepad is definitely required.

super mario 3d world also requires the gamepad for captain toad as well as a handful of normal stages. I don't even bother with them whenever I play the game on the wii u. I like the wii u version more than the switch one due to being able to use the dpad.

It was to hide it from view but be searchable for SEO, my amateur attempt anyway :moogle:

required to 100% the game but is it required to beat the game?

Depends what you mean by "beat the game".

Most people like to beat games 100% and without beating the shrines that require the motion control with the gamepad you are losing out on the rewards given for doing so.... ie heart/stamina containers, the master cycle for completion of ALL shrines. Therfore not gaining 100% completion.

I'm not bashing your list but you certainly should mention the game cannot be competed 100% without the gamepad. If you are going to make such a list you should mention everything that it entails and I'm quite sure most people here will contribute information like this for other games that you could update the original post with.

Might as well be thorough about it.

Hey I'd be happy to make those notations if that's what the community wants :grog:

Wii Fit U:
Boots without any gamepad connected
Multiplayer/Party mode works without any gamepad connected (Only 2 mini games require the game pad)

Edit:
Daily check requires gamepad! But you are free to do all the Balance games and tasks that don't require it

    OS wars are played out

    Try a live image maybe
    , that way it doesn't modify anything on the system, once you reboot everything is back to the way it was
  • lapot2 @ lapot2:
    And I don't want to use Linux simply because it doesn't have the tools and programs I need.Linux is an OS for real men.For those who don't like simple gay sex in Windows, but prefer rough male fucking in the ass after dragging a piano up to the 15th floor
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @Sicklyboy, software for live images got discontinued https://www.linuxliveusb.com/en/blog/frontpage
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
    Nah all OS's can get you gay porn if you're into that
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
    @Xdqwerty, hm, I'm not familiar with that software, however, a lot of distributions offer a live test environment that they themselves build. No changes will be permanent though so any software you install on it is temporary, and would need to be reinstalled next time you boot the live image. https://www.debian.org/CD/live/

    @K3Nv3,
    no, finding all the drivers for the 12th generation of Intel or running KEIL on Linux is a special genre of porn, there is little of that even on the black Internet.
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
    Alternatively, if you have two flash drives, you could boot an installer on one flash drive, and install it onto the second flash drive. Then you can make permanent changes to the Linux install, but still remove the flash drive to "undo" any changes to the PC
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @Sicklyboy, well for some reason I never asked this before but what if someone sees i'm using another OS?
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @Sicklyboy, and well I have a USB that I mostly use to transfer PS3 games so maybe I could use that
  • K3Nv3 @ K3Nv3:
    Steamos is about to be awesome for driver support but it's limited with Debian specific stuff for different archs
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
    @Xdqwerty, true, I suppose that is a different concern. Depends on if you think you could explain your way out of it (lie), explain that it doesn't change anything on the computer and is only a program that runs from the USB drive (sort of lie). Not that lying is a good idea lol. Also, depends on if you think others would notice it is different. Using KDE Plasma desktop environment (default in Debian) looks not too different from WIndows 10. The file explorer looks very different, but if you're just using other programs like web browsers, it looks similar

    in Linux you first look for software for your version of the OS, then you look for how to install this software, then you look for how to install all the dependencies, and after 4 hours of compilation and installation it turns out that one of the smallest dependencies is not supported by your version of the OS and the program cannot be installed
