Hacking wii theming help

I want to change the pic of empty channels on the main menu but don't know what tpl

*here is what i tried*
-i thought(still think) that the empty channel pics were my_TV_c_p0.tpl ,through, my_TV_c_p3.tpl but every time i change them my Wii menu becomes all distorted.

I want to know if you need special tools to edit those files or if i'm editing the wrong tpl files
I just can't figure it by myself, I guess that's what i get for being stupid.

Make the graphics in the my_TV_c_p0.tpl files greyscale and they work real nice. I did the matrix channel graphics and just used 4 clips out of a google images pic. The coloring is handled by the Brlyt file, not the images themselves. Also 24 bit works for them. No alpha.
