I believe the good folks at hackmii.com had something in a post awhile back about how nintendo probably wouldn't try to update the WII's boot2 because if anything went wrong with it there would be lots of bricks involved.


The least nintendo could have done was download the boot2 part to memory, run a quick integrity check and then started their actual writing operation. I don't have WII knowledge as to how/if that would work but its just kinda common sense.

Anyway, pretty sure hackmii called this one!

I thought Microsoft offered free repairs for red rings. I know my brother sent his in when it red ringed and everything was covered. It could've just been store warranty, though.

hopefully sony wont do this when PS3 becomes hackable someday.....

If you're 360 is under warranty for a year. Otherwise they won't bother fixing it unless you've had the RROD already cause they extend the warranty to 3 years after you get RROD the first time. Kind of stupid if you ask me since all 360's will succumb to it sooner or later.
