Is there any advantage that Wii hacking has over vWii on WiiU? At a glance it seems vWii (and eventually hacking WiiU) is superior. Any point in keeping my Wii around?

Wii hacking can play disc based backups, movies, and custom themes but that is about it. Vwii can do most stuff the wii can do but make sure it is safe for vwii (Some things for wii can brick vwii)
(Here is the vwii hacking guide if you need it)

the only advantage of wii vs vwii is if you have one of those old wiis with gc ports and gc memory card slots, you can use gc controllers(on gc games and wii games that support the gc controller), gc memory cards and play retail gc discs.

its sad the wiiu gc adapter does not work for vwii and any gc compatible wii game will not be playable with the gc controler.

but thats about it, if you dont play retail gc disc games using original gc memory cards or use gc controllers on wii games that allow them, you dont gain anything of having your wii vs vwii. i have my wii on storage and use wiiu for everything now.

Luckily, a quick bit of Google Fu has found some techno wizardry that allows a good deal of different controllers to connect to unintended systems, including GameCube controllers to WiiU through through the Wii Remote. :yaywii:

Though it still looks like it takes certain software to get it working.

For the end user, there's no point keeping your Wii around. My Wii has been in the closet ever since I bought my Wii U as the vWii exploits functionally do everything required. Homebrew Launcher works, USB loaders work, region free works, GameCube works through Nintendont etc.

There are a few things that don't work on the vWii, mainly those involving modification to the system menu such as BootMii, StartPatch etc. This is intentional as you cannot repair your system menu if you break it through modification. However, most of this functionality can be achieved by using alternative programs (for example, using Gecko for region free instead patching your system menu, patching VC games to remove region locking etc.). Also be aware that forwarders, IOSes etc. on the vWii are different so do NOT use ones designed for the regular Wii.

The one nice thing about the wii is that you can play project M with gamecube controllers. Wii backup loaders for the wiiu do not support gamecube controllers.

Technically no, but Nintendont allows the use of the GC adapter :P

There are workarounds of sorts, however. If the game is compatible with the Classic Controller, then you can use an adaptor to connect a GameCube controller to thr Wii Remote in place of the Classic Controller. Not ideal, but it works.

I love that nintendont implemented that feature, and I have used it to play gc games on my vwii - but being able to play melee with gc controllers doesn't make up for not being able to play project m with gc controllers.

True. Downsides are input lag, loss of analog triggers and price point. If you buy 4 of these you might as well buy a used wii instead.
