I remember reading once that Backup Loading was limited to 3x because of the firmware and to be able to make it 6x, they'd have to modify the firmware...

How does this work?

Does the custom system menu by Forsaekn use any firmware or anything of the such?

Wii is able to read DVD at 3x, in order to enable that "hidden" feature the hackers created DivX installer which was necesary to use the very first loader. The most recent backup loader doesnt need the DivX installer anymore but a cIOS to trick the drive and make it belive the backup is actually a DVD. If you want to get 6x you need to make hardware modifications a.k.a. modchips.

As far as i know Forsaken's cSM will let you run backups from disc channel without rebooting.

I know this but I ask about the disc read rate. How would it be possible to get it to read backups at 6x vs 3x?

At this moment, its is not possible to run backups at 6x using software, perhaps in the future. But hey, dont worry we dont need 6x, not with gamma it runs most of games at nearly full speed which is pretty sweet

Yeah but it's just the thrill of being able to get the firmware!

And no modchips...that's cheating. There is always a software way to do it!

actually for this: NO, at the moment the drive reads DVD it will run at 3X, when the drive reads WOD then runs at 6X you will need to modify a DVD, wich ........................ you know..!!

why even keep going on about the speed, are you not happy with 3x speed?? I've tested gamma myself for other friends wii's and my older bros step sons, with my own backed up games and its spot on, cant really fault it....much.

(for softmodding..... certainly got to be happy with it...)
want 6x speed now....in the next year?.....get a god dam modchip, by the time some cracker hacks the dvd "tiny" firmware "dangerously" wii2 will be close to coming out!

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So that version is semi rare
