but does one really need 2GB+?
I have like 81 ds games on my 4GB
and about 68 gba games

sometimes I wish I had a 8GB...

lol this topic got popular, fast!

Well when i passed up the 2gb mark, i just got another 2gb card off ebay. simple as that.

R4 is a okay cart not a great super cart
it plays games and does auto DLDI homebrew works fine
so stop saying it is a bad cart
if you just bought one just get a other cart or another R4 w/e you want when it is dead
don't try to stop people from buying R4 since it's their money and their will
stop beating a dead horse/R4 O.o

Nobody hates the R4. During it's reign, it was probably one of the most popular flashcarts out there. But with newer, superior flashcarts, the R4 has... just faded out of fashion. Though, I know for a fact that R4's are still popular overseas.

you're nothing but a fanboy.

Fix'd

Anywho,im upgrading to a SuperCard DS one, mainly for the new features.
Also,it's funny to make fun of the R4,but i don't really think that's hating it.

That is a lot of games!!!

I believe the very first ds and gba game that you first put inside your microsd card is still there.

My R4 has been with me for years now and it works great. Not having SDHC support is not that much of an issue, I have a few microsd cards and 2gb is more than enough. I just keep the games I am not currently playing on my computer. 2gb is enough for a few movies, some music and books, and a good amount of gamess. If you need more space you either: (1) have a very short attention span and need to play dozens of different games in one sitting or (2) your lazy and don't want to synch the cart.

Well, I'm not using it just for my DS. I'm also using it for my Mp3. (I don't use an Ipod).

That's also one of my reasons.

Also, you shouldn't really generalize....

Was gonna get the R4 when I was first lookign for flashcarts, but then I couldn't find any place that had it in stock, so I had to consider buying other cards. And yeah after reading a lot more, the R4 definitely is not worth it's money. I'm pretty much looking at the cost-benefit ratio, so the R4 doesn't even come close. Not hating on it, but hey, we're all trying to save money here.

I've been a member in GBAtemp since nov 2005 and been following Nintendo Flashcart scene since mid 2002. I have been here since the old slot-2 days and Flashme and the home made Passme with the EZ-Flash... I seen rise in popularity and fall in popularity.

R4 is not a bad cart at all in fact back in late 2006-mid 2007 it was the MOST POPULAR cart out there to buy (notice i said Popular and not best). but that was in Late 2006 and mid 2007. At around that time Cyclone DS came out and supported SDHC and it was the first of its kind. Shortly other Flashcarts started releasing SDHC supported carts and R4 Just didn't and the popularity died down. According to TODAY's standards the R4 is not as good as the others. think of R4 as ATA hard drives and Today's Flashcarts as SATA hard drives.

Personally I have never been a fan of the R4 since the beginning just for the simple fact that a big part that Flashcart became mainstream is thanks to the R4. I don't mind it going mainstream but once it hits there dumb ignorant people gets hold of it and start dancing around with it.

My first cart/portable system was Passme/Supercard Mini on DS Phat until I installed Flashme v7 and it was great for its time. but i then bought the SCDS1 V1 along with SCmicro with DSL because it was more efficient . I never upgraded to SCDS1 V3 because i did not feel the need to. SCDS1 V1 maybe considered outdated as of todays standards but it works perfectly fine for me so i didn't change it.

This thread consists of:

A) Fanboys defending the R4 for no reason.

B) People restating obvious facts to others who don't care.

C) This post.

lol, I think this thread should be locked

its going no where ~_~

I have a r4. Im not an r4 fanboy. Yah it is far inferior than any other newer carts in terms in price and features. No argument here. Just buy a cyclo or acecard or watsoever flashcarts that beats the r4 in the ass. r4 is old. If mine broke I will never buy another r4 that's stupidity.

...funny...was about to do just that. >_>

people hate the R4? that's pretty pathetic.
The DS-X is the last cart most people would want, but I doubt anyone even hates that card, the staff is a different story however

I got my R4 at launch, it still works like a charm and does everything I need, I have no reason to hate it and no need to buy a newer cart.

flashcart fanboys are worse than console fanboys

well the DS-X isnt really hated because theres like no fanboy trolls (except for that one, I forgot his name...)
imo console fanboys are alot worse

I can at least see why console fanboys want their console to do well and why they have an attachment to the company.
None of that matters to me with flash carts, and I think anyone who swears elegance to a flash cart just wants to be an asshole
