you hit the nail right on the head
the R4 popularity became its biggest downfall (and the fact the R4 team never updated it

)

I don't see anything to hate about the R4. *shrugs* It works. And I don't remember paying THAT much for it. I got it for pretty cheap I think. It's been a while ago too. There's no reason to really hate it. It's a fine faslhcart. You can't say it's a bad one. I have no complaints.

the reason why it's so expensive is because people who are unaware of what other flashcart you can buy and the only one they know about is the R4 so they buy it, sellers make loads of profit from them so they increase the price, if people were more well informed they could buy better flashcarts.

cant we contact the r4 team with spam mail until they release ne features or at leas their source?

Personally I'm fine and dandy with what I have. It plays the commercial games I want and it does the same for homebrew too. I got it ages ago and its still serving me well

But, hey, everyone needs something to hate, right?

I highly doubt that will work. I don't think the e-mail accounts are even used/checked.

For people who hate R4/M3 because it exist new card :

Do you hate Snes because Wii can play Snes games ?
Do you hate PS2 because of PS3 do better things ?
Do you hate DVD reader because now there is a Blue-ray reader which can ALSO read DVD ?
Do you hate your mom because your girl friend do more things for you ?

I understand there are new cards now, but I don't understand why you hate older card for what they were.
They were good, they were working, they were and they still are easy to use.
The updates are still quickly available when new games have new protections.

If you hate the R4 because it's expansive for what it does, don't hate the product but hate the company and the sellers !
The product do what it was design to do and still do it perfectly.
Do not hate the product capability, you are misunderstanding who to hate !

I just bought one for a friend because I know what she can use, and what options she can deal with.
later if she is getting better, we will see what to use.

Would you pay $500 for a ps2 when a PS3 is 300? Would you pay $400 for a SNES when a wii is $300? Would you pay $600 for a DVD player when a Blu-ray is The same price?

I didn't think so.

Also, the DSTT, Acekard2 and CycloDS Evolution are just as easy to use as the R4

He made a good point.....
ferrariman, the answer to all that is NO, but if you already own an R4 cart, why would you hate it because there's something better?
It's all different story about buying, choosing R4 now would be a bad decision and a bad choice, but owing it isn't bad at all..

There is NO reason to hate R4..

why cant someone on the r4 team betray them and release the source?

And why didn't the DS-X team, or the EZ-flash team, or the Supercard team, etc teams release the source?
Because people might start getting ideas on how these things work and try their hand at making flashcards of their own? Dunno. Or maybe they just want to feel useful...>_>
Uh..... I was being sarcastic.....

Shane R Monroe makes a lot of points on the bad side of the r4 on the latest episode of DualScreen Radio

but i have an R4 and i know its bad points

No SDHC
Crappy Updates they never add any new features like other carts get or increase compatibility in any significant way
Bad Download play/Wii Conectivity Support

there are probably others i cant think of too

to whoever said it never had a touch screen menu the main interface IS touchscreen

there are a few good points

easy to use
good cheat support
cart looks good
nicley skinnable interface

I take things too seriously.

I don't think people hate the R4
They just consider it old.
and probably respect it as it was once good in its time
unlike now when we have like 3 good flashcarts to choose from

I lost my R4 a while ago but I found no real problems with it the time I had it, it was actually pretty good in terms of compatibility, etc. It just can't compare to my new CycloDS though.

I've been using the R4 for about a year now without any problems. Older firmware does not affect me as much and I'll just update it when I remember. Maybe I'm not a 'power-user' but the R4 just suits my needs. No need for fancy GUI or anything else. Slow? Just get use to it. The slowest part of the whole setup is still the user. IMHO

I just bought a second one for a second DS at about $42 shipped. Is that expensive? The DSTT is cheaper than the R4 though. Might have bought the DSTT if I had read the forums a bit deeper but there's so much time to read so many topics.
smile.gif
Plus I'll have to get use to a new GUI.

Bottom line is, the R4 works, plain and simple. Also keep in mind that we're all using these flash cards to run ROMs and homebrew, being a little slow cannot be compared to the cost of the ROMs stored in cards. I'm just glad I do not have to open up my DS.

Actually with the dstt you can have the same looking firmware with YsMenu, So you could say the dstt is a r4 with sdhc and a lot cheaper.

I've had my R4 for over a year now I guess. I don't really care about the other carts, mine does the job, so it doesn't bother me. (Although, recently I saw it selling for £25? I got mine for like £15 (inc p&p) ¬.¬)

When mine breaks then i'll get something different, I don't need much. Albeit SDHC would be nice.

It's not really that I hate it. I just dislike it. One for becoming the "synonym for flash cart" now that it's so wide known. Two for taking most of the attention away from the existence of other better flash carts. Ever browsed GameFAQs? They ALWAYS tell you to get a R4, and whenever you ask them about something like, for example, an Acekard, SCDS1, EDGE, or a Cyclo, half of them won't have any idea what you're talking about, since they're too busy telling off to all their friends about how good the R4 is, etc, etc. I can admit that the R4 is sufficient. However, there are alternatives that can surpass the sufficient mark, and at a cheaper price too (Acekard 2).
