i picked this up at a swap meet, and noticed later it was not 3001, but 3001E. what is the difference between the two? i notice in the battery compartment there is no wifi sticker like the 3001. I can find no information on this particular model elsewhere. Thanks in advance!

maybe so, but w/o wifi capabilities it isnt like my other 3001. i dunno if it is EU region as one or both of the sites on google label it as a new model in 2011, while the regular 3001 came out in 2009

How about you look at those features mentioned in the Wikipedia list posted above and see what it comes closest to. If you cannot remove the battery and have no Wi-Fi with it, you would deal with pretty much an E1000, if not, chances are you got yourself a slightly different 3000, most probably exactly the same regarding functionality.

Seems like a normal PSP, but with some features cut out. The Wi-Fi logo in the back is missing, so that would explain the missing Wi-Fi. I found some guy on Yahoo asking how to hack it, so I wouldn't say they're extremely rare. Here's an FCC info page I found, it includes some pictures.
