What is a HD-2D remake?
HD-2D is the style of the Octopath Traveler games and Triangle Strategy. This remake seemed to aim for that, but somewhere the style got lost and now it's basically just 2D sprites in a normal 3D environment, similar to the Star Ocean remakes. (First Departure R and Second Story R)
So yeah, this game is not the best example of this visual style.

Already got it yesterday for Switch using Yuzu emulator. I played about 2 minutes knowing me and these games probably the most I'll ever play. :

am I the only one who hates this 2d-hd stuff. I'd much prefer just a full 3d remake in the dragon quest 11 engine.
I really wonder who is this for ? Gen X and old Millennials ? Did I have to grow up with the super nintendo and have nostalgia glasses to like 2d-hd ?

I saw that they have censored some small aspects of the game. I don't think it is a huge deal and will still play it but it is annoying how developers publishers keep doing this. I don't think I have ever heard a single gamer say "this game is great but I wish it had more censorship." So I don't understand why they keep doing this. I am Christian myself and I don't think they needed to censor the priest costumes. It is just a game and I really doubt that Christians would have been that offended by them. I don't even really get why that would be offensive to Christians in the first place.

People went on and on about this for weeks without noticing the fact that this wasn't a new thing in this version lol. Like 2 things changed and at least the big one was a change back on the GBC version in 2001.

Yea, Like I say, I don't think it is a big deal. Especially in this specific case although some other examples of censorship have been worse. I don't actually care about this much. It just seems like the censorship issue keeps coming up and I see people complain about it but I don't think I have ever seen people complain that there isn't enough censorship and they want more of it. A lot of these censorship issues don't bother me at all personally but I still don't get why they keep doing it if pretty much nobody actually WANTS it done. it seems most people either don't care about the censorship or don't like it. But there are not a ton of people who like it and want more of it.

Not sure if I should try ...

I completed 1 and 2 not long ago and got kinda annoyed as those old games were not only hard but also confusing... I did start part 3 (of course not the remake) but at some point I just didn't really want to go on.

Got stuck so often in the previous ones even with faqs as I often didn't know where to go or what to do and it didn't feel any less confusing in part 3.

Do they have any modern helpful features like optional quest markers or build in hints or something like that ? also is the remake as grindy as the originals?
With part 1 and 2 some people were like "yeah I easily did it on level 18" while I couldn't even beat the final boss on 26 xD

As someone who played all the Dragon Warrior series on the Nes, I'm enjoying this. I've been playing it for about 12 hrs and so far it feels like the SNES remake version with better graphics, like way better. Gameplay is as old school as it gets, tons of grinding for Lv & gold etc. There're a lot of QoL add to this version as well. Also I'm using Ryujinx to play it because it runs like ass on the actual Switch.
