Hacking What firmware?

Ah, I was hoping it wasn't that......

You see, if you download the v4.02 kernel from www.r4iii.com, the folder actually contains two different kernels. One is the one you use on your card (R4.DAT), which is a customized DSTT clone, the other is for a R4 clone (_DS_MENU.DAT). They must sell both type of clones, and then lump both kernels into one folder for download.

I'm sorry, but the files I gave you are for a R4 clone; you have a DSTT clone. You can also tell by how the loading screen looks.

I don't think it will be possible to boot straight into YSMenu with your card. I tried playing around with the kernel you use, but it is highly customized as uses a DLDI called "DEMON", not "TTIO".

I'm not sure if you will even be able to load YSMenu as a .nds file. It's too much guess work for me without actually having the card to play around with.

If anyone has an R4 SDHC clone that boots a _DS_MENU.DAT file name; I would still like someone to try this decrypted YSMenu on it.

BTW, here is a pic of the encrypted R4III v4.02 running on my authentic R4 (just for shits).......

Tried that

TTMENU (folder)
R4.DAT (renamed _DS_MENU.DAT)
TTMENU.SYS

Same ?MENU result.

That's because they were made by the same team/person. Only difference is one version if for their DSTT(i) clones and the other for their R4 clone.

Like I said in my last post though, there is no way to get the files I gave you to work. I had assumed you have an R4 clone.

Yeh I assumed it was a clone too. Tried the details in your last PM and get the usual ?MENU response.
I really appreciate your help in trying. Seems like I should invest in an M3i Zero. I have heard they are quite good.

If it's a DSTT clone, then shouldn't the DSTT firmware work?
And if the DSTT firmware works, then the YSMenu firmware should work.

If the above is correct, I believe all you need to do is take the clean YSMenu.nds and rename it to R4.dat and put the TTMenu folder on your card.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure it out.....

I looks like the DLDI they use is just hex edited. Anywhere it says "DEMON " is where it's supposed to say "TTCARD", and where there is "DEMO#" it's supposed to be "TTIO#".

I need sleep, have to work the graveyard shift.

Hundshamer came to save the day.

He provided me with three options

R4 on first button moonshell on 2nd
R4 on first button DSTT on 2nd
R4 on first Ysmenu on 2nd.

Worked a treat.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
Seems a file heavy folder structure but not caring now I have decent firmware.

That was going to be my next suggestion......

Take the YSMenu I gave you and rename TTMenu.DAT to YSMenu.NDS, that way you can run it like a game. Or, rename TTMenu.DAT to YSMenu.nds and then edit multimedia_path.ini with "YSMenu.NDS" instead of "/moonshl2/moonshl2.nds" and use the Mulimedia button to launch.

Oh well, at least you have it working now.

Too bad you are on the other side of the pond; I would trade a real DSTT or DSTTi for your card. I don't really need it, but I it would be fun to play around with.

Why are people still buying r4's these days...
Who else would we laugh at?

You can only use YSMenu on legitimate R4s, so most likely not this one.
These cards still have a place, not everyone plays the newest games, I would guess over 90% of the games still work in these cards. And the price...where else can you pick up a cart for a couple of bucks each?

They all say the same thing... Use YSMenu as a NDS file -- either as auto-booting (Loads firmware, then loads YSMenu) or as a Moonshell replacement.

Which I actually did, with lots of mentoring and aid by the kind hundshamer (and I mean he taught me everything), and an R4 Upgrade "r4i-sdhc".
Seems many of R4 Clones are actually DSTT clones in disguise and made in economy, so the trick is building a YSMenu that would run on a TT, and provide it with needed files.

Install Official OS.

Unzip the archive snaffled from the DSTT web and copy the files to the root of your memory card.
Your card should now have a folder called TTMenu and one file on the root called TTMENU.DAT.

Install YSMENU.

Unzip the YSMenu0803200115 archive and check that you have the following files.

YSMenu.nds
ttextract.exe
YSMenu.ini

YSMenu.txt
YSMenu_eng.txt

Create a temp folder on your PC and copy the Official DSTT TTMENU.DAT file to it.
Copy the ttextract.exe file from the YSMENU archive.
Run the ttextract.exe and it will create two new files.

ttdldi.dat
ttpatch.dat

Copy both the above files into the TTMenu folder on your memory card.
Copy the YSMenu.ini file into the TTMenu folder on your memory card.

Rename the Official TTMENU.DAT file on the root of your memory card to TTMENU109.nds
Rename the YSMenu.nds found in the YSMENU Archive to TTMENU.DAT and copy it to the root of your memory card.

Job done.

This guide seems old, so make sure you get the latest files...
