i noticed after 2 months i had a typo in the name i gave my laptop.sure i'm able to change the screen name but that doesn't change the C:/Users/account_name

i read online just make a new administrator account and transfer all my files there than delete the other administrator account name.

will right now i'm looking for a way to transfer all my data easily to another account name but i can't seem to find one.

all i find is transfer files to a new computer.

before i do anything will what trying to do really work or should i just do a clean install to my laptop.

As you said, make an account with Administrator access. Once into the new account, access C:\Users\*Old_Account_Name\ and then copy the folders (drag n' drop, copy/paste, ctrl+c/ctrl+v, etc) and plop then into C:\Users\*New_Account_Name*\

Allow for explorer to overwright any existing files, wait for it to complete. Once done, make sure all files were copied over, then once you know all is where you want it, remove the old account from the Accounts section of Control Panel. When asked if you want to save the files to the current user account, say no, you already did that.

If you really want to be safe, I would suggest plugging in either a flash drive, ext. HDD, or some other mass media device and backup all your important files, but as long as you follow my above instructions, you should be golden.

If you need pictures of these steps, I will get it done.

I've never had to do this, but I would think you could just turn on View Hidden Files and Folders and copy everything from C:\Users\user_account to the different one. Keep in mind, I'm not sure if Windows loads any files from ALL accounts, which would prevent them from being overwritten, so you may need to do it from Safe Mode or from a Linux LiveCD.

Granted, a fresh install would be better. It's damn good to do one of those once or twice a year. Especially on a laptop.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
