Sweet, thanks for mentioning!
I'm now downloading the 17MB.

You can update your VLC player also by starting VLC (just start a movie file) and go to Help --> Control for Updates (or so).

In my opinion, VLC is one of the best, if not THE best media players out there.
Next is probably Media Player Classic and that.. Japanese or Korean one. o.o

What so good about is it ability to play almost all of the audio and video formats available.

Except CCCP or MPlayer does it better.

It's better... but still not as good as K-Like/CCCP/MPC+FFDShow.(Or CoreAVC/DivX h.264 decoder)

Looks like they also tried to improve the subtitle support (.ass+fonts) because it said something about building the font cache. Then I tried the karaoke(.ass) and there were strange jaggies around the font that I didn't notice with MPC. Does a terrible job of "upscaling" the .ass soft subs for me(Fullscreen issue)... Dunno if that's my own problem. It looks as bad as hard subs in low res AVIs being upscaled if that's a better way to put it. Then again, I'm complaining mostly about anime playback issues.

Aren't VLC's codecs mostly based off of FFDshow's?

VLC is decent, but after dropping VLC for CCCP I've never even wanted to look back.
+1, except I use K-Lite codec packs. VLC is just awful on most decoders.

these so called wonder codec packs totally suck tbh!

too many of them can cause headaches when it comes to decoding or encoding video clips or full movies to another format!

A lot of players freak out not knowing which ones to use when there are multiple variants of the same codecs installed by these wonder codec packs!

Your much better off just installing XVID codec and the AC3 codec to begin with ....from then on analyze your non playing clips with GSPOT codecs analysis tool link

or use MediaInfo link

53GUI_Easy_en_Extract.png

and only install the codecs they recommend for your clip/s for both audio and video

agreed that VLC is not perfect but its one of the better multi format multi platform all in 1 program players out there ...

MPC and other players sometimes do stuggle at least for me ...with some obscure web video formats and some mobile phone formats and a few clips I've come across that have used a mish mash of weird and/or outdated codecs

The problem with conflicting codecs usually only occur if you have multiple codec-packs installed which is not recommended in any way. Sticking to one good codec-pack gives the best results.

QFT. Never had any problems, even in encoding.
