The Vita's story has been told in this opening blurb about a thousand times. Its a system that's been struggling, to be brief. One of the big detractors currently is a lack of software. However Don Corleone Mesa, Director of Product Planning and Platform Software Innovation (yes, that's a real title) at Sony, has said that "more than 100" games will be hitting the system.

Mesa highlighted a few already announced indie games, such as the brutal and psychedelic Hotline Miami, horror game Lone Survivor, as well as Thomas Was Alone and Frozen Synapse. However, he also stressed that there will be bigger titles too, such as a bunch from Sony Worldwide Studios (currently only two of Sony's studios are known to be making a game for the system).

Black Mesa also revealed some interesting statistics for the system. The system has been stressing having every game available digitally day one, and Mesa revealed that a third of all system software sales are digital.

A survey conducted by Sony also found some positive numbers for its userbase. 90% of Vita owners play it on a regular basis, or once or more a week. The system also holds an 86% satisfaction rate from its owners. However, the biggest statistic is that Vita owners play their Vita on average of 18.7 hours a week. Surprising, huh?

It's kind of telling that he only specified indie games when mentioning "more than 100 games coming".

Well to be fair they probably want to keep bigger game announcements for conferences. I mean there's PAX this week, GDC next week, and E3 in June. It'd be rather silly to say "Hey guys inFamous Vita is coming oops I said that."

Plus I'm pretty stoked for Hotline Miami at least.

Not sure if I believe a Sony spokesperson at this point in time, I hope he is telling the truth because if not it would do more damage than good.

Well counting digital releases (such as the indie games), their own games, plus probably some third parties, the number isn't unreasonable. I'm sure the 3DS is getting well over 100 releases this year, counting everything from eShop releases to retail.

Quantity does not equal quality. This announcement alone is riddled with the stench of desperation.

How so?

Also...

>People complain about lack of Vita games
>Says there'll be over 100 Vita games this year
>"Quantity doesn't mean quality!"

While everyone here may laugh, Sony does make strong first party titles. Well they fucked up on Resistance: BS but some of their titles are amazing.

Has anyone noticed that Vita games are really cheap? I was looking to pick up Uncharted and snagged it new for $18. I know there's not a lot of games worth buying but I'm going on a spree this week picking up what good games I don't have.

Well, when the Vita starts seeing more good titles and they slash the price on the system and memory cards, I will probably pick one up again. After I completed all the Vita games I had, it sat collecting dust so I sold it.

I hope those 100 games aren't gonna be ports...
if you are expecting 100 new games you are going to be disappointed...

most of those "100" games are going to be ports, remakes, virtual console, ps1/2 classics, indie games and shovel ware

also guild when people complain about lack of vita games they are not complaining that there are no games at all rather that there are no worth playing games...

Well there are like no games coming out currently. Soul Sacrifice next month and like... Tearaway sometime and Killzone in September. FFX and X-2 as well... sometime this year.

What would you consider a game "worth playing" then? I'd say inFamous, Uncharted, Killzone, the Sony first parties. Maybe common Sony-affiliated franchises like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy too.

I'd probably say maybe 20 of those will be Vita-only titles. 20 more might be Cross-buy, which I like, so if I want to play at work I can, then resume at home.

PSP games that can be played on a Vita will probably be a few of those "100 games".
Minis wil be a few more.
PS1 classics even more.

They're probably even counting Playstation Mobile games in that. There are a few decent games in that group.

So "100 games" could even be an understatement, but the way it's been spun just seems like PR bullshit, as usual.

If you're sitting here "poo-pooing" the fact that they are saying they have a ton of games coming (even if they are not all exclusive or new) then you are clearly here purely to hate for the sake of hating.

  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.

never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
