I've been thinking about joining a newsgroup and subscribing to usenet. But I don't know a whole lot about how usenet works, and which software/site I should subscribe too. Anyone who has experience with usenet care to explain the basics and point me in the right direction? Much appreciated (I would've searched the forum for a similar topic, but the search function has been disabled temporally).

Basics:

1) Get a client. I suggest NewsBin Pro 5 but its a pay software...you can google free usenet BINARY clients. They should suffice

2) Pick a provider.
The most comprehensive provider out there is Giganews. Providing the longest retention time (also one of the most expensive)
I personally use UsenetServer as they have a $3/3 days plan so you can sample usenet or just do a pay as you play style.

3) Enjoy

Edit:

You can try Binary News Reaper...I used it before and it works fine:

Check here for information: http://www.usenetserver.com/en/faq.php
They also have a Global Search feature so it makes it easier to find the files you want.

Thanks a bunch. I figured it out, I'm using another program the site recommended. I'm now downloading lots and lots of... kitty pictures, at an alarming rate lol
