American 3DS, for Australians.

What you'll need:
- A DSi/DSiXL charger, or a power converter.

Pricing:
3DS:
- $250.20 AUD.
Games:
- $40.05 AUD, on average.
Shipping
- $25 AUD for express (2-5 day average) shipping.
- $20 AUD for expedited (8-16 day average) shipping.
(This is based on Amazon.com prices, if there are better deals, please post!)

Warning:
- You may require to have an American credit card, with an American address, for purchases on the e-Store. This is unconfirmed, however.
- You may still purchase e-Store "point" cards online, from US retailers, though.

Thanks to all the users that helped. Hopefully this thread might help some other users like me that didn't know some of these details.

Aside from importing games...

No, there shouldn't be any problems EXCEPT for possibly the SpotPass/StreetPass.
What problems would they be?
Would there be connectivity issues with PAL 3DS's?
What about linking wirelessly to local PAL 3DS's?

That's the problem. We don't KNOW yet.

I don't expect any problems, but... Nintendo isn't really expecting people to import their 3DS, either.

Maybe region coding.

I don't think SpotPass/StreetPass will be affected though.

Why?
If you look at the European event for the 3DS, they displayed the StreetPass Mii Plaza and they displayed the location you are from. (In the video's case it is United Kingdom)

SpotPass is via Wi-Fi, so I bet it's international.

Ah well. So nobody has a good guess?
I e-mailed Nintendo, I'll post back if they give any confirmation.

Yeah, I just need to buy a US to AUS converter plug. It's very cheap, so that's fine.

You'll have to buy US Cards for the eShop, or get an American Creditcard.
I imported a US DSi, and it wouldn't accept my card since the address doesn't match.

My mother has a mastercard, so I should be fine for purchasing games on the eStore and such.

Another thing that might not work is the DSI shop channel. If it is region locked, it may only work with the U.S. DSI shop.

How stupid of me not to notice the post above mine. Had a Duh moment.

No, but I've never been denied anything with it. Even when purchasing games from the US Steam store, it didn't deny me even though I had an Australian address.
But then again, you might be right...I just hope you aren't, lol.

Ouch, I never realized that. That's more than likely correct, yeah...
I would just call Nintendo and yell at them, though.
And make up a fake story that I recently travelled to America, bought an American 3DS, etc, etc.

Well I'm just basing that con on my experience with my DSi, the eShop could work completely differently, Australian addresses could be compatible etc.
I'm just saying keep it in mind as a possibility.

Regardless, you have access to a credit card so you can get shop-card's (whatever they'll call them now that points are gone) online.

You better make sure you're buying a transformer, not an adapter. You can't just change the shape of the plug, you need to actually convert the voltage.

My friend has an American DS, and he just used an adapter, and it worked perfectly.
I've also read that the charger corrects the voltage output itself.
Are you sure?
