Hacking Updating softmodded 4.2 to 4.3 with latest IOSes

Hi there!

My Wii is currently a softmodded System Menu 4.2, and I installed the necessary IOSes and such about a year ago. I haven't done anything since then.

But now I want to start using System Menu 4.3 to stop games from nagging me about updates, and at the same time make sure I have all the latest versions of everything else.

So is there something I can do to easily make sure everything is the latest version without having to know exactly which IOS versions I installed a year ago, and all that? Can I perform a regular installation as if my Wii was "virgin", or should I "virginize" it before I do anything?

Can I install HackMii 0.8 to get the new homebrew channel, and then safely upgrade to version 4.3 and still be able to update IOS files and whatever else is necessary?

Basically, I'm so outdated on the whole softmodding thing that I would need hand-holding like an übernoob

Install the latest homebrew channel with the hackmii installer 0.8 and install IOS236 after this. Then it would be nice if you could post your syscheck here before you are updating

The update won't virginize your wii because you have the latest homebrew channel now. And please, don't use pimp my wii. The syscheck link is a bit outdated, use THIS version.

HBC, IOS236 will survive.
IOS249 and friends will be stubbed. No big deal.

All IOSes under 200 and 249 will be restored to virgin state. Pimp my Wii will modify all IOSes on your wii which doesn't work sometimes, and that could brick your wii. If you want to play backups, you will need a modchip or a backup loader.
edit: use this syscheck 2.0.1 version, the homebrew browser only has older versions.

Gecko OS is only for modchips. Do you have a modchip?

I do have a modchip, running YAOSM, but it's pretty old. I was under the impression that Gecko OS worked because of the sofmodding.

You should be able to play your backups directly from the disc channel! Of course, you can use Gecko OS, but before you are trying anything, install homebrew channel, IOS236 and post your syscheck

OK, you can install IOS236 and the new homebrew channel now, syscheck is OK, all needed IOS slots are free and you have patched IOSes to reinstall other ones!

Reinstall latest HBC, and update bootmii@IOS and if possible boot@boot2.

After that there are 2 roads:
- automatic update using nintento or game disc
- manual update under DOP-Mii

Sorry to hijack, but i´m planning also to upgrade to SM 4.3 guys.

So far i´ve got a nand back up, (no boot2 bootmii =(, due to a newer wii model). Installed HBC 1.0.8 and so.

The only thing i´d need is this ios 236 installer.

So here´s the question:

Which is the best way to install 4.3?

Using Nintendo Network? Waninkoko´s 4.3b upd? s:

Why updating to 4.3? Just install preloader\priiloader and set Block Disc Updates to on.
