Hardware Update WiiKey

I know inorder to update the WiiKey you have to burn the updates to a DVD (first time updater), but here some questions:

1. Do I really need to waste a 4.7gb DVD-R just to burn a 33mb file?
2. Do I need to install earlier updates in order to install the 1.9s?

Because DVD-RWs don't work as well and are more expensive.

I use Ridata 4x DVD+RW's for all my updates and my Wii reads them fine. No, you can just install the latest update.
