Pokémon Bank is an app, of sorts, that allows players to store up to 3,000 of their Pokémon from X and/or Y. The program was originally scheduled for a late December release and released, but Nintendo removed the app from the eShop service at the last minute and issued a delay.

After a month or so, Nintendo is finally releasing the app outside of Japan.
Pokémon Bank has finally gone live in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. This game is automatically at Version 1.1 and it has been announced that the 30 day free trial is redeemable until March 14th 2014. North American release is still unclear.

UPDATE: The service is now live in North America.

Storing Pokemon means you can upload Pokemon and then download them from a different Pokemon game that supports Pokebank interaction. This is basically meant to make it much easier to transfer Pokemon to new generations once they appear, and it also makes it possible to start a new game while retaining your old Pokemon (not items though, stupidly enough). And it has about three times as much storage space as the in game boxes.

I've been transferring for hours now...
This app was really poorly designed.
First you need grab Pokemon bank
Redeem free trial
download pokemover (why isn't it a part of pokemon bank? why do I need to download it separately?)
then Pull all pokemon on box 1 of Black & White/Black 2 & White 2
Upload them with pokemover
Download with Pokemon bank to X & Y
Move all Pokemon to Box 1 on Black & White
Over and over until you finished
I have 540 Pokemon on Black 2 god damn it! It takes so horribly long!

It's probably not a part of Pokemon Bank because you don't need it once you're done transferring, so it would just take up space. Not being able to pick which box to transfer is a bit stupid though, I'll agree with that.
