Hacking Unofficial DSTT Kernel V1.17a01

I've had a look around (should have done that before I downloaded really) and it looks like DSTT Advance may be an offshoot of DSTT as their cards are being sold by most online retailers.

There seems to be minimal difference in the cards other than a slightly higher GB limit on the SDHC cards.

This may be the way forward for DSTT firmware, but to check, if anyone knows a game that doesn't work on 1.17a firmware (a game released prior to Jul 2009), I'll test it on the 1.18a and see if the update had any benefits.

DSTT Advance has been around for a while. They're a clone of the DSTT, but they seem to be more on top of things then the official DSTT team is. I think a DSTT-ADV is a fair purchase, as it has no fakes (as far as I can tell).

Yes it will work on normal DSTT card, works on mine.

Got quite excited to see a new firmware 1.19a released today but having tested it so far it does not fix M&L so we still have to wait.

Wait.. so the 1.17a02 firmware fixes Mario and Luigi RPG 3 English version or just the Japanese one.. :S

I'm pretty sure the 1.17a02 firmware came out long before M&L 3.

it might be i have a DSTT but wanted something dsi compatible for when i get one so i got a AK2i and am very pleased with it.
with akaio 1.5 you don't need to patch protected games so a clean copy of M&LBIS works great.

mario and luigi bowsers story is the only game on dstt that doesnt work thats worth it, im not gonna get a new flashcart for just 1 game that doesnt work, when all other games work fine without freezes

Yeah.. I'm not sure which one to get though. My bro had two AK2is before, but they didn't even last as long as my DSTT.

FOR NOW, only one game doesn't work. But how about later? The list will just get longer and longer.

I'm not in any hurry to buy another card. I'll wait until there actually are more decent games out that won't work on a DSTT before I look into it.
For now, the DSTT has treated me well. BIS not working is disappointing, but it's good enough I would have bought it anyways to support the dev's so I'm not as upset as some.

If this becomes a semi regular occurrence though, then it's time to look into another option. Right now we're just guessing.
That Star Wars game was unplayable on the DSTT for god knows how long before the unofficial firmware fixed it.
I don't have much hope of anything changing with BIS, but one can hope it's more of an exception then the norm going ahead.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the games that were fixed in this update were, before this, fixed by the use of ysmenu. I don't have a DSTT myself but, for example, I've heard of FF Crystal Chronicles Echoes of Time not working with 1.17, and after advising them to use YSMenu, replied again saying that "IT WORKED THANK YOU". I've seen the same for Bleach Dark Souls, where it wasnt working in 1.17 but works fine in YSmenu. The new savlib.dat library is only useful for japanese users because it only adds (J) games compared to the old one, and the infolib.dat updates are still outdated (go to http://sites.google.com/site/weeklyinfolib/ for newer ones). As well as that, again I'm not sure because I don't have a DSTT, but I'm using YSmenu on r4 and I've never had any problems with homebrew compatibility.

So isn't it redundant to try and use this for YSmenu, seeing as it doesnt have anything that YSmenu didnt have before?

according to the list it has DS linux support which y's menu did not give as far as I know.

If it being sold in my country of course. SOme silly question though, it does play on DSL to right?

ak2i works on DSphat , DSLite and of course DSi

before i got my DSi
i was using it on my DSL :")

version 1.17a02 doesn't work with Mario & Luigi 3. Still seems to work with everything else. Pokemon Platinum seems to save even faster with it. O.O
