Wicked news! Frontpage please!
interesting development if true
I'm not sure if I understand fully: is it a hardware or software mod? (hoping for software, it would be incredible! )
From what it looks like it seems to be a software mod relying on drivechip to run the code from a burned dvd. If they were able to encrypt/decrypt data they could easily decrypt a full game structure and make their *own game*. The news is suggesting this.
But it could be a hoax, be wary.
I don't know... I don't think it will be posted to the front page until there is more proof... But I'm new, so what do I know
Anyway, this is great news. I hope it is real!
About damn time!
Skeptical until proof of concept is released.
Showing live Wiimote info can be done through Opera anyway.
Doez this woerk on teh wiikey????!!11
HOPE THIS IS TRUE!
"They were able to find encryption and decryption keys by doing full memory
dumps at runtime over a custom serial interface."
Assuming it is true it is very similar to how HDDVD was first done (same as a whole bunch of hacks though), I have to wonder if Nintendo has a revocation scheme. Still I would have taken a buffer overflow but anything that kicks it all off.
I would like to see this turn into some rom (iso?) hacks too.
No, the correct question would be 'does it work on PAL?'.
Pretty amazing, I guess the Virtual Console will be coming to an end soon
..Atleast for me.
Seeing as it's a German convention the question would be (like the memor32) "DOES IT WORK ON NTSC???????"
Also - be skeptical until a proof of concept is released
Well, I was almost ready to buy a modchip for my Wii. Guess I will have to wait to see what this hack is all about exactly!
now we need some good coders to come on board
No, we need a devkit and/or a Wii library.
oh the possibilites, this truly is brilliant news.
I just updated the article with the actual video:
I suppose this is one occasion where the wii being a "gamecube 1.5" is a bonus (there is already some serious stuff in place for powerpc and the GC), the wii remote, which lets face it is all people are really going to want at first, already has some halfway official stuff (the web/flash thing) and has been used to drive just about everything on a PC.
