Hey all,

I'm thinking about getting a New 3DS XL, selling my old normal 3DS. I want to somehow backup my data, sell the console, and then restore it onto the new device. My concern is that backing up the old sysNAND and then flashing that onto the new console might brick it since the hardware is different. I can't do everything the normal way since I'd need to have both consoles to do a normal system transfer. So is there any way I can do this or no?

try this, you should be able to get the files from your 3DS NAND, and keep them after you sell the console

afterward, call Nintendo and have them link the NNID, you will need to explain that your original console broke and you cannot do a System Transfer you need your NNID manually linked to your new console.

Update both console's (sysNAND's), then officially do a system transfer ....after that your free to downgrade your console from 10.7 (current firmware) to whatever firmware you want.

re-read the original post, the source 3DS is to be sold. this could imply that it will not be in the possession of @osakasys to do a system transfer when the New 3DS XL is purchased.

Yes you can. I wrote a tutorial long ago on how to do exactly that. The only difference between my tutorial and what you're doing, is that after you have generated your xorpads and verified them (make sure you can open up ctrnand with winimage or your OS's equivalent), you want to do a regular, online system format. This will allow you to login with your NNID with the new console (you shouldn't need to call Nintendo), then prep it for CFW and get a dump of its nand and xorpads.

My tutorial is here -> http://www.maxconsole.com/maxcon_fo...ter-failed-transfer-NNID-already-transferred)

Edit: should have read the whole thread before posting, I guess, but my tutorial will allow you to continue using the exact contents of your SD card as well (You won't have to reinstall anything at all).
