I am waiting for team salt - truly am and rather did that. But I am now thinking, given I have TWO Wii U:s and both have capabilities... But after 5.5.1 browser Kernel, IOSU, and wider acceptance to do all kinds of jiggy stuff on 5.5.1, I adapted into using "my main Wii U" with all of this, including new brazilian games on my USB among quite a few completely legit eShop purchases I also have on the HDD.

Now given that my another Wii U that originally was standing in 5.3.2 and now 5.5.1 is doing mostly nothing, I am thinking of playing around with RedNAND for it and what not - depending how arduous this current install method really is. I might just let it be I have enough time wasted on things I do out of curiosity and never for any actual use...

Is anybody else getting the non-hexadecimal digit found error?

For those who want to know the differences between this and the version Salt will release:
From what I know, they are working on shrinking the nand dumps (meaning less space required on sd). They are also working on various tools to make it an easy and good experience for end-users.

you obviously didnt copy in the keys correctly and overwrote the tabs/spaces, the most important thing in python, so now the script cant work anymore.

I'm willing to put money on it that salts version will be very similar to this... Maybe a different dumper & installer & that'll be the difference. Tbh I'm not sure how far they have gotten tbh... In the hacking discussion thread, wolffystylez? Was asking people to test files on 8gb wiiu's for salts nand dumper, literally while he was asking people to test it, dimok released a stable dumper/installer w/ rednand/sig patches for 32gb + 8gb.

I'll ask here because I'm not 100% sure on this... Has the public releases so far taken over team salts???
Nah brah. Salt has an extremely strict bricking philosophy for their releases. Their code will be a lot more stable and based on ShinyQuagsire's YouTube, everything will have a GX2 rendered UI instead of a cpu drawn graphics.

Judging on what I've seen, I believe Salt will release a whole set of tools for extracting and installing WUDs, managing backups, dumping, etc etc etc. I don't think Salt will release until they (or someone else) crack the WUD format to get native homebrew.

Edit: But what do I know? Don't take my word for it I'm not a smarty pants.

Im not too sure if thats directed at me, but im pretty sure it is. In that case, im pretty sure i put all of them in right, making sure ro keep the sizes the same

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Have you generated sections yet? Just run the python script in /scripts/ directory.
You mean anpack.py? It just closes itself like all python scripts

Looks like you didn't place the keys in the right spot, or you modified something else.
I think that's what he's trying to say.

thanks, but..... I know they're right. I just checked and everything matches up. I cant post a pic because the keys are property of nintendo, but im looking through another time just in case. Also it did make a fw.img but im assuming it's corrupted. I can check if there's an md5 available for the actual fw.img

Here's the MD5 for my fw.img file: 55DDC0D6F3DF3E11B54FEDEE719F6CF7
SHA256 as well: 43A86E47B746FAC06EEB42C2C714383A66BDCA565BE5E6F0C0C53E70AEAB990D

see , theres all this working on this and working on that talk... what i see is devs working on this and working on that and releasing this and releasing that , while you know still working on this and working on that... see the difference ?
I'm going to try not to sound rude saying this.
While I do appreciate the work of WiiUBru and the fact that they are the first to bring us redNAND with sig patches, what they delivered is not what I would consider to be for end-users, at least not yet. Even YOU stated that in the OP.
Although SALT is taking a while to release, they are trying to release their stuff in a state that is fully ready for end-users. From what they've shown their work is not only stable redNAND, but also various tools for both end-users and devs.
They won't release anything that even has a chance of bricking to the end-user.
Unlike WiiUBru, they aren't releasing anything in an unfinished stated. The current redNAND we have works, but we don't even know everything about it yet (whether unlinking NANDs actually does anything). And iirc updating redNAND isn't even possible right now, unless that was added without me knowing and hearing about it.
And it isn't like SALT gives us no information about what they are doing. They do give status updates and pics of what they are working on. They simply choose to make sure what they released is well polished.
I don't see why you got so salty about me simply stating what SALT is working on in comparison to this.

I'm actually not too sure about that as I haven't tried restoring to another SD Card.
Make sure to backup your data from the SD card before trying! Feel free to tell us the results.

Ok inject worked flawlessly.

I just starded the dump process onto the console to have my sd card formatted by it.

Then i unplugged the PSU.

An injected my dumps on the card.

Awesome! I would like to confirm that this works as well! Just wait until it formats it, then you're good.
Although, there's no need to unplug the PSU, just hold the power button for 4 seconds or so, then it'll turn off.

Also, I asked a Wiiubru dev if this is safe, he said yes. So if you wanna use redNAND on another SD card, this method is perfectly fine!

While I do appreciate the work of WiiUBru [...] what they delivered is not what I would consider to be for end-users, at least not yet.
Here are two objectively useful things that are for end users that have come out in the last week, as a result of the public work:
- vWii Hacking without a game
- creating a NAND backup

I say they're for end users, cause if an end user wants to do them, now they can. That's caring about the needs of the end user. We keep throwing that term around like we're releasing the next iPhone.

Well we're not releasing the next iPhone. We're executing unauthorized code on a heavily locked-down Nintendo console.

And even in these cases, it's as simple as copying two files to the SD card, visiting a website, and running a computer script (to backup nand or inject vwii). And these are just the developments from the last week!

I don't see why you got so salty about me simply stating what SALT is working on in comparison to this.
I believe his post was actually targeted at some less tasteful posts by an earlier user, not yours.

And no, none of this is to speak ill-will of any Salt team developers. But it's silly to pretend like the public work is somehow hurting the scene or creating some big mess. If anything, Salt now has more information to work with due to the public info that's out there now. And when their miracle system comes along, it can come along.

But until then, let's not pretend like waiting for Superman is somehow serving the needs of end users more than actually enabling them to do things that they want to do.

I never stated this release hurts the scene. In fact I think it's good for the scene.
While I do agree the features, like you said, benefit what I would call the "end user", you have to realize people mupping about with this release do have a chance to brick their systems, especially those who don't really know what they are doing.

It's definitely good enough for those who know their way around electronics (if you can compile this fw.img you probably do) but you have to consider that lower-tier users who will find a way to get their hands on this (probably doesn't help with people like me uploading precompiled... but I mostly did that for windows users like me which is obnoxious to get to compile)

The WiiUBru release is great, especially for those who know how to properly make use of it. But until we get better tools the only real advantage with the current redNAND over sysNAND with the USB method is installing pirated DLC and eShop titles. At this point it is pure piracy for both the USB method and redNAND. And I'm not saying that's bad as it opens the door to more in the future.
What WiiUBru could do to really impress me is making HBL as an installable title for redNAND.
I'm not even really against normal users using this, but I just hope they know what they are doing when going in.

Also does anyone know if updating firmware from redNAND still bricks the system? I'm wondering if that is something that WiiUBru fixed yet or plans on fixing. Last I heard updating the firmware from redNAND has the potential to brick because it still writes to system EEPROM and some other things. And if so I would like that and a list of other things that could potentially brick the system (not just brick redNAND) in a stickied thread to at least help prevent anything like that from happening.

Thank you WiiUBru for providing a list of user-reported bricks:
http://pastebin.com/wMSNfZTV
With this list we can find out what has caused previous bricks and hopefully help prevent future bricks.
Also to note, a good way to make sure you are on redNAND is to create a folder in the same spot on both sysNAND and redNAND, naming them appropriately (and I recolored the redNAND one red so it is easy to see the difference)
