I had the same thing. I dont know what happened to your system during trying updating. But my wont boot after downgrading also. It is because there is stuff for the higher version (9.6 in your case) home menu saved on the sd card. It cant be loaded on the old system menu. backup your sd data, and try to find it on the sd (somewhere in the "Nintendo 3ds" folder). Or just empty the sd card, and start from scratch. Or search this forum what to do best.If you want to transfer some data for example.

Ah yes, my downgrade finaly worked. New3ds XL MH4U Edition was 9.9 (later 10.3) now 9.2.0 EU. Now I am Happy! Will prepare the 32GB SD now.

just FYI if anyone got it like me, i booted normally without microsd card then after get to the normal menu screen, i insert microsd back, change theme -> reboot like normal -> use browserhax to install menuhax again.

Not sure if i am not cleared for installing RxTool and CFW

Did you upgrade to 10.3 before you did the downgrade process? Thanks.
no i downgrade from 9.6

I am really careful, so I copied CIA files with TeraCopy, then archived it and checked MD5 and now it`s wrong. Is that ok?

Somebody help me please
When I run ssb4 (game cart) the Nintendo 3ds screen appears then it goes to black and pops up a message that says "An error has ocurred. turn off the console...", I tried booting up the game from title manager as well but gives me the same result, would delete the updates (that I downloaded directly from nintendo since an Anon says it was ok) and download them as cia fix the problem? And if so how do I do so?
I tried dowloading a game to see if my console was screwed, but I had no problem runing Shantae ATPC.

is it safe to downgrade a 2ds? and what is the safest and or newest sysupdater?

SysUpdater 0.4.2b. No one who followed the instructions correctly has bricked their O3DS.

The fact that a 2DS is a cheap and shitty 3DS, it's safe. Use the O3DS CIAs.

When you run SysUpdater, it will display the version on the top screen.

What about N3DS?

If you follow the instructions correctly, a soft brick is the worst that can happen. A soft brick is easily fixable.

Should have mentioned that SysUpdater is unstable on the N3DS and may take a few tries to successfully downgrade without getting a soft brick.

UPDATE
I downloaded MHX and gave me the same error, so it's not just the smash game

Just downgraded my N3DS on the latest 10 firmware to 9.2, no issues beside launching sysupdate and having to reboot to the menu not popping up total process took around 15 minutes. Took me longer to find a screw driver to unscrew the back of my n3ds.

so replaced my bricked n3ds (realized i used the wrong cias...).

upgraded to 10.3
got browserhax and menuhax installed

the first two times i launched julian's sysupdater the menu showed up but nothing happened when i pressed Y

tried running ftbrony first and now whenever i open sysupdater it's just a black screen.

thoughts?

*edit*

crap... now it won't even boot into menuhax...

as in it just boots into the regular 3ds menu even when holding "L"...

Hello!
In recent days, there have been many developments within the 3DS homebrew community, with one of them being kernel access! With this, we now have a way to downgrade 3DSs and do whatever we want with kernel on >=9.3 3DSs. What's that? You want to downgrade? Well then, here's how...

PLEASE NOTE: JP N3DS Users, you'll need to remove the 000400102002CA00 title in order to not get bricked! Not sure if other regions need to do this as well.

ALSO NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR 3DS BRICKS. If it does, I'm sorry, but it is NOT my fault.

CIA STUFF:

Need some firmware CIAs and can't find them? Never fear. Even though I can't directly link them here, I can tell you that if you Goodle (including the quotation marks) "[MEGA] [CIA/BIN] MSET 4.X & 6.X backups, Browser backups, Update packs (All Regions)" you may just find what you're looking for. ;)
You can verify that you've gotten the right .zip file and that everything is okay by comparing the file's MD5 and SHA-1 hashes (generated on this great site) to this handy chart below.

TUTORIAL:
Before beginning, remove any DNSs (like Tubehax) that you may have on your 3DS. This can interfere with the downgrading process. You may also want to back up your SD card juuuust in case...
  1. Grab the sysUpdater app from here and place it into the '3ds' folder of your SD card.
  2. Make a folder called 'updates' on the root of your SD card.
  3. Place all of the CIAs for the update you wish to downgrade to into the folder.
  4. Eject your SD card, put it into your 3DS, and boot.
  5. Open up the Homebrew Launcher in your entrypoint of choice and start the sysUpdater app.
  6. If everything goes well, you should have some options. Since we're downgrading, you can go ahead and press the Y button.
  7. Wait and DO NOT touch anything. The app will tell you when it is done. (It took me less than 5 minutes)
  8. Once the app prompts you that it is done, wait. It will reboot automatically.
  9. Bite your fingernails in suspense. If everything goes correct...
  10. Your 3DS will be downgraded! :D
COMMON PROBLEMS:
Issue: The app freezes at a certain step!
Solution: Try a different entrypoint. I was using Ironhax and got this problem, so I switched to OoT3DHax and it worked.

Issue: The prompt comes on screen, but nothing happens when I press a button!
Solution: Either wait a few moments or reboot the system and try again.

Issue: I downgraded, but my 3DS screen is completely black upon reboot!
Solution: Try removing the SD card, or you can reboot into recovery mode. To do this, hold A+R+L+Up as your 3DS turns on.

(please recommend any other issues and solutions to add here please!)

DATA GATHERING:
There is an optional little thing you can do here that helps collect data about the 3DS downgrade process. Do it if you feel like it. :)

So quick question. Do I place the CIA'S zipped or un zipped?

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
