There is a way, when you connect the dongle to computer using micro USB cable on the windows device manager you can see:

the devices:

The name of the USB Mass Storage Device is a clue, RCMLoader One is the plastic transparent one, RCM Loader ONE Plus is the white cardboard one (and the Chinese clone)
and on the details of driver, on the Device path you can see the firmware version of the RCM Injector

So if I have a RCMLoader One (which came in a transparent plastic case) I don't need to update and the latest hekate would still work on it? Thx.

The RCMLoader "V2" ORIGINAL have a problem injecting Hekate 5.6.0 and newer payloads, and need the firmware 2.02 update, can be obtained from https://www.xkit.xyz/support/

But all the Chinese clones allegedly V5 what you can buy on aliexpress do not have the problem and you CAN NOT install the original firmware on it, you can brick it with the new firmware or even if you format the internal USB drive.

If the problem persist you can use ArgonNX (https://github.com/Storm21CH/ArgonNX-SE or https://gbatemp.net/threads/argonnx-se-payload-with-mariko-and-aula-oled-support.581956/) payload and setup to autoboot Hekate, the additional bonus is you will never need to update your injector dongle, only update the payload.bin file ON YOUR SD CARD and voílá!

Hi. I just came across this and was wondering in which cases it applies. I just ordered a rcm loader dongle from aliexpress, and I really don't want to brick anything. Would you be willing to talk more on when that can happen? And what would brick?

It doesn't say what V it is, but it says it has "Built-in Atmosphere, ReiNX and SXOS payload files, one key switch payload."
And I want to change it to hekate payload because that's where I would boot.

Here's a pic of what it looks:

any new RCM Loader buyed from Aliexpress is a Clone which doesn't need any new firmware. they are called V5

and sadly even don't works like the original one, which allowing you to copy multiple payloads and change the one injected with the press of a button, the clones only can inject the one on ATMOSPHERE_HEKATE folder.

Do not try to format the clone one or you will end bricking it.

Thanks much. I won't try to format it then.
Is that folder good enough for what I want? To use new hekate payloads, essentially.

I don't think i need any atmosphere files in there if i just want to boot hekate, right?

Seems like all of the sigpatches work with the latest 15.0.1 firmware, according to mrdude.
Atmosphere seems to also work with it, so most likely we won't need any new Loader patches, unless Scires updates Atmos for this subversion firmware.
So far so good. Launched 2 game backups and installed a new backup. Testing some homebrew. Like I said…so far so g

I don't think the attached archive contains the 15.0.1 sigpatches right?
I can only find the 15.0.0 in it (ini file doesn't contain anything related to 15.0.1)

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM

  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
