Anyone look at the files. I'm trying to swap the characters faces and sprites but it seems that the sizes of the faces are different between male and female and the game somehow adjusts the position of the face sprite to fit correctly. Can anyone point me the location in probably rf3FaceEffectParam.bin that refers to male and female PC starting point for the face?
Thanks
To some extent this is overcomplicating things. The face images are simple BTNX texture files. Open them in
Switch Toolbox, export the images to PNG (you maybe can get away with some other formats, but PNG strikes the right balance IMO,) edit to adjust the offset to match (you can export one of the others you're swapping to and view it to get the offset) then save and replace in Switch Toolbox. Save the BTNX and put that in your layeredfs. Officially they are a format Switch Toolbox doesn't seem to support as far as I can tell, but when I was just messing around to see what I could do with a few game files I recognized I was able to replace the images importing as R8_G8_B8_A8_UNORM and probably some other formats would work too. The game seems to be fairly tolerant about that.
Ok, this is actually a bit complicated since you have to manually fix each file, but at least you don't have to wait for anyone or any special tools that aren't available yet.
BTW, quite a few things seem to be simple BTNX textures. Furniture, plants, the "paperdoll" bodies, items, etc etc. The character models are BFRES files with standard textures and all (much like what Breath of the Wild used, but minus the extra compression) so one thing I'd really love to see someone do is edit the character 3D models to be less stumpy. Way beyond my abilities sadly.
You know who'd be a hero?
The person who figures out a cheat to activate a town event.
I seem to recall there was at least one that was notoriously hard to actually get. The biggest problem with town events is triggering them is completely random and all you can do is save, sleep, then look for one of the right people to talk to. It's a real pain.
This may be unrealistic though. Someone would have to figure out what the IDs are for the events. Perhaps in one of those text files? One thing I do wonder is if it might be more realistically possible to just reset whatever algorithm decides which event is going on in a day. Then one could just keep resetting until they got what they wanted. Still not ideal, but it would end up being orders of magnitude faster and easier without the tedious reloading and resleeping.
On the subject of "hacking" this game, I wonder if anyone has ever figured out how to edit any of the game's scripts? I can think of a small handful of things at least that would be nice to adjust. Stuff like the whole event thing especially. (I was just imagining, what if an object -- say one of the trophies maybe -- could just reset the current day and all day-specific variables?) Also, it would be cool if a few little things here and there (like the way you can't stea- uh, borrow fruit from Margaret's room if she isn't actually in the room at the moment) could be modified. I couldn't find any mention of anyone doing this yet, though the translators obviously have managed to extract some files (text obviously) and I would presume that might include some scripts since they would have to adjust translations. I didn't see any discussion of actual tools or anything though...
