Basically, I save my game like normal, then I close via PS Button. Is that where I'm going wrong then?

Yes. Press the L+R+select+start button combo to take you to the quick menu, back out of the quick menu (default is circle) and navigate to the bottom of the choices to close retroarch. Retroarch will properly close and save for you.

I'm going to guess you are one of the people who never restart their vita and one of the problems that that causes is sometimes folders like to get locked up denying access until you restart
The history tab in retroarch.vpk doesn't work because it opens in the default core when you open the app , for me that's fbalpha

In the history tab next to the name of the game it says "mike Tyson punchout(FCEUMM) ,when I hit run it opens in the default core fbalpha

I can go to load core and select fceumm but I don't think that's how history tab is suppose to work

Look for the Final Burn Alpha v0.2.97.30 romsets, though I had to check on a computer for errors, some roms just don't work.

Does anyone know if FBA has dynarec? I'm holding out hope that performance can be improved for the non-CPS/NG roms.

edit: the Snes9x core could also use a speed bump for the chipped games.

2002 seems to be full speed for chipped games

I'm having two problems right now.

One is that my controls vanish. I can load whatever core fine, load content, then my controls no longer work. The game will run, but I have no control over it, nor can I bring the menu back up. I tried deleting retroarch.cfg to reset configurations to no avail.

The second issue that just started today is that no core seems to be able to load zip files as folders anymore, was this feature removed?

Thanks for any advice!

If you hit menu then continue, the controls will start back up.

The biggest issue I've seen is the scaling on certain MAME games gets messed up after opening the menu. Loading the rom back fixes it, but it goes back when the menu is opened. Flipping through aspect ratios will blink the screen in the correct position, then go back to being too zoomed in.

I also put save, load, and menu on different directions on the right stick. Seems to work pretty well, just crank up the analog threshold so they don't trigger too easily.

I thought the FinalBurnAlpha (non-2012) core was mean to use 0.2.97.38? I'm using that core with that specific romset.

Also, is the all-inclusive retroarch vpk working without any major issues?

I'm using the retroarch.vpk and have noticed the controls go unresponsive until I freeze-resume with the home button. 10/12 build

Am I right in saying that Snes9x 2005 Plus is missing from the all-in-one retroarch vpk?

The all-in-one vpk seems to work fine for cores where is has to load an individual rom (most consoles), but doesn't work when it has to load arcade zipped roms.

Delete retroarch.cfg, FBA works fine.

I 'spose it's time for the unofficial official announcement:

As of now, the All-in-One RetroArch.vpk is the only one that will receive attention from here on out.
I will retain all the extras and the .vpk list in the OP until the extra fluff has been fully deprecated.

So... yeah.

Also as a note: If you are upgrading from standalone RA cores to the All-in-One package, you need to regenerate your RA config files.
Backup your /data/retroarch/ system, savedata, remaps, and savestate folders somewhere else on the memory card, delete the entire retroarch folder (Or if you have a ROMs folder, simply delete all the other folder/files inside and rename the directory to something else), and install/run the AiO executable.

Once everything's kosher, transfer your backup folders back.

For once, you're not.
The 2005+ core is, for some reason, lacking a proper title (Likely because it's a handheld-specific core and because the handhelds have had yet to incorporate an AiO executable, this wasn't taken into consideration), so on the core select list it comes up as:
"snes9x2005_plus_libretro.self"
Works fine, though.

Also as an aside, if you exit RA properly (As many SHOULD be doing by now to maintain working configurations), when you return it'll use the last selected core (Out of the box, it runs 2048 for some reason).

Also as another aside, any cores that have an in-game exit option (I.E. PrBoom), it'll exit RA as a whole and not kickback to the top menu.
And the auto-detect core function works. (Only exception being SNES9X 2005+, for reasons above)

Wait...So are you saying the libretro devs are dropping support for individual core vpks from here on?

Is it fixed on 10/12 ?

Will try the latest nightly (10/13) and report back later.

Edit: Just tried installing the all-in-one vpk from 10/13 nightly...both manual/automatic config saving still don't work...had to install a core from a really old nightly (9/19) to save config.

Not sure if you're a point of contact for the RA team, but is there a forum where we could post issues we find with the nightly builds?

e.g. ALL the SNES cores have unresponsive controls. To get some level of response back, I need to press home and re-enter the emulator where the controls sometimes work.

Some example games for testing with unresponsive controls I've tested, F-Zero, NBA Live 95/96.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

It does that when I edit a post.

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
